What to do...?

I currently have the 5S, coming from a 5. I bought it unlocked, 32GB 812$. IT is not worth it. IOS 7 is horrible, stale, and boring. Ive had every single IPhone as well. Really looking into going Android, the HTC one is nice, but does not get updates I read.

I def. do not want the Galaxy.

The Droid MAXX is nice, but expensive and CNET made that clear.

I am very interested in the Nexus 5. Reading only 349$ unlocked, 5 inch screen 444 PPI, wireless charging.

Anyone else in a similar situation?

You could probably delete that first paragraph, as it doesn't do much except flame the spread of hateful comments. (BTW, my wife has the HTC One and it has already received the OTA update for 4.3 from AT&T. So, it is already on the latest version of Android).

In terms of non-Apple phones, you really can't do any better than a Nexus 5, simply because you are getting the vanilla Android experience, you get an unlocked phone at an awesome price and the hardware specs on this device are really good. (Camera may not be up to iPhone standards, but with the Nex5 getting low light sensor enhancements, I think it will be much better than the Nex4 camera).
After the Nexus 5, you have the HTC One, MotoX or Google Editions of the HTC One/S4. I wouldn't consider much else Android wise. Of course, if you want the best pictures you could always look at the Lumia 1020. Assuming you don't mind using a Windows Phone. Just my opinions. What's great is you have a lot of options in front of you.

If you like the HTC one you can always convert it to a google edition and get it to recieve OTA updates.
You could also look at the G2 as its similar specs to nexus 5 but may have a much larger battery.

But is it possible to make the G2 almost like a Google edition with OTA updates? I am new to Android, but thinking about the G2 if I won't be able to score a Nexus on launch, but the skin looks horrendous.

As does my One. It took awhile to finally come out and there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth because of the delay by many people here and on other websites.

I think this would be a much more promising option if they weren't so much more expensive than the other choices out there. They really need to be able to come down a couple hundred $$$ on price to be able to move large numbers of these IMO.

My wife bought a 5s, and I was planning to as well. I saw the HTC One, and then read the reviews. AnandTech said they've never given a smart phone an award, but gave the One a Gold Editor's award. Between that, and it's great features, my son and I each bought one. My wife returned her 5s, and bought one as well! We have Verizon, so the phones already had 4.2.2 installed, and 4.3 is supposed to be due this month. I've looked at reviews of 4.3, and it seems more of a tweak, than a noticeable change.

HTC offers their HTC Media Link device, which allows you to mirror your phone to your TV, and stream video, Netflix, etc. I have Apple TV, but streaming videos makes using the screen of the iPhone impossible. HTC allows you to stream video, and use the phone for all other apps (except Netflix, YouTube, and other such media). Netflix etc can be streamed, but it will appear on the phone's screen. Still better than Apple TV, and way better than Samsung's similar but laggy offering.

HTC One does get updates contrary to what people say or said. It's currently at 4.3 whereas the S4 is still at 4.2.2 (although the S4's 4.3 update was rumoured for late october but things have been quiet as late).

I'd wait though till the Nexus 5 is actually out and reviewed by folks.

Your 5S is not going to drop too much in value a few weeks, so hold out and see what the Nexus 5 brings to the table.

I do ask why you bothered with the 5S coming from the 5 when surely you knew what the 5S brought to the table if you were already bored of iOS. ???

Not yet, it may happen due to similarities with the nexus 5 but it is anyone's guess. I would wager there will be enough of a hardware difference to keep a full conversion of the G2 from happening.
As far as Google edition phones go - a full conversion of the HTC One is possible, but not for the GS4 - the best they can do there is a ported ROM. I would wager the G2 will get ported stock roms without official ota's similar to the GS4
