What to do??

hey guys,

its me, again!. to save some money and to get a better setup more suited..im looking at a 5,1 MP and a separate, dedicated, gaming rig?

if someone can clarify these specs against each other, as i want a MP again, assuming it will compete with my current iMac then i will then return the iMac within the 14 day window and look at the MP then.

current iMac :

retina 5k, late 2015
3.2ghz intel core i5
8gb 1867 ddr3
radeon r9 m380 2gig

mac pro :

> 3.06 6 core
> 32 GB Ram
> 120GB SSD
> 640GB HD(2x320GB)
> ATI Radeon 5770 1GB
> 3 months warranty

If only compare these 2 Macs, the iMac is more stronger (if not much more stronger) in all aspect, except the Mac Pro has more RAM (the iMac can also install 32G RAM anyway).

imac is faster and newer, if the ram is user replaceable then you can upgrade it a lot and it's a lot cheaper to do it yourself than getting apple to use it.
8Gb of ram is fine for most ppl and games you only tend to need more when your doing work.

you can always try running games on the imac and see how it does, im shore it'll be fine for most games as long as you turn the resolution down to something like 1080p (idealy you want it at 25% or 50% resolution i think).

the macpro has a cpu from 2010, more ram (but if you upgrade the imac ram you can have the same or more), a SSD (id gess the imac has a SSD to, the imac SSD will be faster) two old hard drives which will be old and slow (& i never use used HD's as they may be worn out so if it was me id pull them), a much much older GPU with less ram + a short warranty on a old computer

the macpro also has a sata 2 bus for all the hard drives while the imac will be using at least sata 3 which is much faster.

the cant see your imac with a quick look on the geekbench site http://browser.primatelabs.com/mac-benchmarks but i see a imac from 2013 with a i5-3.2ghz (so your's will be same speed or faster cpu) with a
single cpu score of 3200 multi cpu score 10153 (32bit scores)

macpro 3.06 single cpu score 2393 (cant see a single cpu 3.06 mac pro so used the 12c as an example at the same speed, as i cant see it on the geekbench site also cant give you a multi cpu score)

any way from the two single cpu scores you can see the imac is noticeable faster for each cpu core and most apps will only use 1-2 cpu cores.

id also gess the imac looks nicer, takes up less room, makes less nose, has a sweet display & has good sound/speakers


big question is are you happy with the imac and what do you want from it?

thanks for the input dude! yes, i love my iMac, do you know of any stream software for MAC?? as i want to start and experiment on setting up a gaming stream, like twitch or such for CS GO (possibly more)??

from what i know most ppl stream at 720p so if your gaming at 720p your imac will play any game which is a plus

dont know much about streaming games, you need a ok internet connection and id gess there will be a slight cpu hit from the extra work.
as a plus your display is fairly big so you can game in a window with chat and streaming software all open at the same time i gess
