What trick does Apple have up it's sleeve?

I know that there's always some pretty accurate rumors before a product launch, but I don't remember anything with so much detail. I mean, what will they present to the press in the media event? they could just say, "It's official now, the iPhone 5, no need to show it you've already seen it all over the internet"

Something here doesn't make sense to me. I mean, this is Apple after all. they are either blowing a serious smoke mask in our faces right now, and will reveal something completely different, or at least they are hiding some core feature.

Any guesses to what that may be?

I wouldn't be disappointed, because the specs and design of the rumored iPhone 5 are awesome. It's just bugging me how Apple, the notorious control-freaks, let so much information, even information from 3rd party suppliers, leak.

The only explanation is that Apple deliberately let the info leak, and that could be for one of 3 reasons I can think of:

1. The are keeping a big secret tight, in order to wow us when we think we know it all.

2. The whole thing is smoke and mirrors, and the next iPhone will be totally different.

3. Apple want to keep people excited after the "disappointing" (lol) last quarter, which the explained as anticipation for the next great thing.

The fourth option, which I find hard to believe, is that Apple has no control over secrecy in it's supply chain, and this insane volume of rumors all pointing in the same direction (not so much of the usual scattered lucky guesses) is Tim Cook's "Doubling down on secrecy"

We have already seen the new iPhone. Steve Jobs isn't with us and that is why we have so many leaks...Apple should try harder without Steve.

We have pretty much already seen the next iPhone, it looks good. For me I was hoping I could maybe hop back into the iPhone, but from what I've seen so far, it looks like it won't be as good as the Windows 8 phones, or Flagship Android Phones.

Though you never know. They might whip out something crazy.

We've always had leaks like this prior to launch of a product, there's not really much more than there was when Steve was there.

Heck, we had full specs and boxes and logos for the Thunderbolt equipped MacBook Pros when they introduced those, with full pictures showing the same case design (when everyone expecting a new case).

We had full pictures of the 5 USB port Mac Mini when that got introduced, with people claiming "photoshop!" based on their "experience in photoshopping things..." and they also learned the hard way the leaks were real.

iPhone 4 and Gizmodo... iPhone 4S part leaks galore ("There's going to be 2 iPhones, this 4S and a 5 we have no part leaks from, only a sketchy drawing made by a fan, because the 4S can't be the only thing this year...).

This year isn't different, that is, if you've actually been paying attention.

iPhone 4 ? No surprise. MacBook Pro Thunderbolt ? No surprise. iPhone 3GS ? No surprise...

No really, Apple hasn't always managed to surprise. Heck sometimes they've outright "disappointed" from not living up to the fan community hype generation engine.

I think if you step back and look objectively, you'll realize this is not true.

Everyone used to associate "One more thing..." with Steve and yet how many presentations were there that he did NOT say his famous catchphrase?

There have been fewer surprises these past few years because, I suspect, more and more people (engineers, testers, manufacturers, basically everyone in the supply chain) have realized that if they let slip a little detail here, a little photo there, it could be their 15 minutes of fame (or website traffic).

And I think we'd be naive to think that Apple isn't aware of what kind of information has been leaked and doesn't occasionally take steps for damage control.

Bottom line, if you want to be totally surprised, then you shouldn't read MacRumors.

I've been hearing the iPhone5 will have a new patented flexible glass so it won't break if you drop it.

The vast majority of the leaks are on the hardware side due to the supply chain. It's hard for Apple to keep factory managers, floor workers and the Chinese case manufacturers from sneaking pics.

Where Apple can hopefully surprise us is with iOS as that is something that they fully control in CA. But doesn't seem as though any big secrets are coming there either.
