What type Intel Core 2 Duo can be found in the new iMacs?

And on that note....

Any work on the Intel Core 2 Quads being released on the iMacs? Q6600 chip for example...and is there any real benefit?

Is the Core 2 Extreme already Quad core?

All Macs except for the Mac Pro use laptop processors. The Q6600 is a desktop chip. The Core 2 Extreme on the iMac is a dual-core chip. No laptop quad-cores are scheduled for release until at least Q2 '08.

Notebook parts make it really small! Gotcha...

Doesn't really say it on the apple site, but does it use notebook or desktop RAM? (what's the pin size?)

I had seen that page earlier, but i guess i missed the obvious...

"All Core Macs use the same DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) SODIMMs. Therefore, choosing MacBook Pro RAM for the new iMacs is correct."

I think that Quad Core proc will be my next upgrade to my iMac, assuming they are pin compatable.

That will definitely smoke the warranty but by that time it'll probably be expired anyway without applecare.

I see a disaster looming... :

It would actually be more cost effecive to sell the iMac in 2 years and buy the newest one, instead of wasting money on an obscene processor and trying to upgrade a virtually un-upgradable machine.

Yeah... kind of expected that. True that by the time they are out and reasonably priced a full machine upgrade will be a better idea.
