The reason I ask is because I want to know if any .pdf file is treated as a ebook? For instance, say I was using an iPad and I opened up an email attachment or went into my e-learning account at school and downloaded a syllabus or a pdf file, would I be able to upoad it to ibook?

iBook uses the ePub format. The PDF would have to be converted or opened with a PDF reader like GoodReader.

So if I have good reader on iPad, it will automatically open the pdf file and store it in the iBooks shelves? I am wondering if pdf files that I get from school via e-learning can be organized using ibooks, as in them showing up stored in the library.

The only format that iBooks can read is epub. If you can get a program on your desktop machine to convert PDF to epub, you can then drag the epub file into iTunes and it will sync into iBooks.

BTW, I don't own an iPad, trying to see how I can use it and it it is a really a good alternative to carrying around a macbook.

Ok...so basically find converting app and do what you said. I will do some searching...thanks.

For everyone's information...I found this http://www.simplehelp.net/2010/04/0...-epub-files-to-read-on-your-ipad-with-ibooks/

I think for me this will be a buying point.
