What type of files are considered storage on iCloud?

Are photos, applications, mail, notes, bookmarks, etc, taking up space on iCloud?

Basically what files goes AGAINST your 5gb free storage?

I keep asking myself the same... I paid for 15GB but ever since I have my iphone I have just used less than 2 Gb....

And I do regular backups of my iphone as well... yet 15Gb is far too much... else I am missing something?

If you use iCloud for email, anything stored in Mailboxes goes against your storage space. Apps that support iCloud, backups for iOS devices, and any documents in the cloud also add to it.

It seems right now the only reason to add more space is if you have extremely huge backups of your iOS devices. Eventually I see Apple letting us use it like Dropbox so that would also be a reason to upgrade.
