I recently found a Mac Pro 3,1 on Craigslist for next to nothing. It is the early 2008 dual 3.2GHz quad-core version; with 18gb of RAM, and the Nvidia Quadra FX 5600 graphics cards. It has a couple of hard-disks as well.

What upgrade options do I have? What is the maximum OS version this system will support?

I can easily & cheaply put in an SSD to use as the boot disk and leave the others for storage and backup. What about graphic cards? I don't do any graphic intense work, but I know sometimes systems can be limited to lower OS versions because of the graphics card. I don't think I need anymore RAM at this time. I wish I could hook it up to my Apple Thunderbolt Display, but I don't see anyway that is possible. Right now I have it hooked up to my TV via an HDMI adapter.

Any Metal capable GPU would suffice, if you don't need any computing power from it.
