What version of iOS will the iPhone 15 and 15 PRO come installed with?

Does anyone know what version of iOS the iPhone 15 and 15 PRO will come pre-installed with? I seem to remember once before that I had pre-installed a newer version of iOS and when I got my new iPhone (and no I don't remember which model or version) I had to update the iPhone before restoring from a backup. My and my wife's current iPhones have iOS 16 - hence the question. Thanks.

I believe it comes with 17.0. As long as your backup is from that version or lower it should work just fine.

I've always wondered how they install the latest release while they're still in the box. A special function of the OS perhaps? Updated through the box's packaging?

The build of iOS 17 on iPhone 15 series has a different build than the RC/public release for A12 Bionic and newer...
