There are a lot of bad video game movie adaptations (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation still hurts), and only a handful of good ones. Maybe this will start to change with the success of Warcraft, Sonic, and The Witcher.

There have been plenty of video games that I would like to see made as a decent movie or TV Show, Zelda and Metroid come to mind, but the one I think could turn out really well would be Metal Gear.

I love Metal Gear and Snake's Revenge on the NES, and I always thought that it could make an awesome movie.

As a kid, I pictured Michael Biehn (Kyle Reese from Terminator, and Hicks from Aliens) playing as Solid Snake. Now as an adult, I know that I envisioned Michael Biehn as Solid Snake probably because of the game cover art ripping off The Terminator movie and subliminally putting the thought in my mind:

I never played the Metal Gear Solid games, so I don't know if the Kyle Reese look would still work for a Metal Gear movie based off the newer games.

Is there a video game that you would like seen turned into a movie or TV show? It doesn't matter if there is already an existing adaptation, but if there is one, what did you not like with the original?

I would absolutely love to see a Diablo movie adaptation but they have to be really careful. They really screwed the pooch with Warcraft (in my honest opinion) and I'm on the fence about whether they could actually successfully adapt any of Blizzard's other titles.

A Diablo film could be so good as there is a myriad of potential there. Here is to hoping.

An Animal Crossing movie - there is one from years ago but it's not in English sadly.

Hoping to see more Tomb Raider movies as Lara Croft is a great character.

A Tomb Raider sequel is in the works but was delayed due to COVID-19. However it sounds like they may have started back up on filming or are about to. I'm quite excited for it as I loved the first reboot film from 2018.

Dying light would be cool to see as a movie. Hopefully with the unrealistic grappling movement too.
I'm a sucker when it comes to zombies.

Diablo would be nice, I still play Diablo 2 to this day ever since 2001 when LOD came out.

IMO, critics where overly harsh on the Warcraft movie.

Don't believe me? The DOA movie has a higher Rotten Tomatoes score than Warcraft. Really?!?

There are a lot of questionable video game movies with higher RT scores than Warcraft:
Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Retribution, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, Mortal Kombat
, just to name a few of them.

Also, the audience score is about three times the critics' score.

I am not saying the movie was a masterpiece, far from it, but I don't think it is horrible and imo Warcraft is one of the best video game movies.

I think one of the hardest part about making a movie like WC appealing to average movie goers is dealing with Orcs as main characters. Actually, in early rumors of the movie, it was said that Blizzard wanted the first movie from the Human perspective, as they felt that Orcs might be a turn off for the general audience.

I think that the WC movie was very successful in that, because imo, the Orc characters were the most interesting part of the movie. It was actually the Human characters and stories that fell flat.

The best character by far was Duratan. For me, the most disappointing character was Medivh. I like Ben Foster, but his portrayal of Medivh was over the top serious to the point of parody. I think that Khadgar was disappointing too, but not as bad as Medivh.

Even with the CGI, the movie itself was beautiful to watch. The battle scenes looked realistic and pretty brutal for a PG-13 movie.

Maybe I am being bias because I have been a long time WC game fan, and have been playing it since the 90's. Also, knowing that it was going to be a CGI movie, I had my expectations low before seeing it, so maybe that played a factor.

I never played the Diablo games. Is there a lot of lore in Diablo like Warcraft and Starcraft?

If so, I wonder if a game like Diablo would be better as a TV show than a movie. I think that Warcraft, with the huge amount of backstory and lore, would have been better suited for a TV show.

Although, I am unsure if a TV show would ever have the budget to make something like a live-action Warcraft.

I second the half life franchise. That would absolutely kill if it attracted top notch actors. Such a fantastic & well crafted story line out of the box, it would be hard for me to envision someone screwing its up.

Id love to see Shogo-MAD redone as an anime Series or Macross vs Zentradi vs Masters anything would be awesome.

Ugh, the Warcraft movie was just plain terrible.

Diablo 2 is probably my favorite game of all time, but I don't know how well it would translate to a movie.

I always thought Deus Ex would make a good one, though.

Diablo 2 is my favorite game of all time. The only game I ever got 'addicted' to. I still play it occasionally to this day and have since it came out in 2000.

I also don't know how well it would translate to a movie since the game is a hack and slash and revolves around items. Not really around the story.

Diablo is one of those interesting games where the whole game revolves around the in game items and not so much the story. So in a way, there is not a lot of lore like there is in Warcraft and Starcraft.

Quite of few successful video game adaptations since I last posted. Looks like there are many more in the works, too.

Disappointed with how The Witcher has gone after the first season.

Fallout 4, Halo
With both a Halo and Fallout TV Show out, have you watched either?

I haven't played either game, but watched both and liked them.

I watched Fallout, would have loved to see the F4 Boston Story, but as it was enjoyed it. Halo, I started it, but am undecided if I'll continue. The first episode was good, the second episode, I was not sure about.
