I think :apple:pple has been dipping too much into the medical herbal products out there in California lately. iPad??

I can just hear the boardroom pitch now.. Steve Jobs "Lets take an iPod Touch and make it bigger! We'll call it an iPad! Everyone will think it's a tablet computer when it's really just a big iPod Touch. No-one will know! whoooahahhaahahhaahahaha <insert evil laugh here>"

I agree. It's weak. But maybe the iPad 2 will evolve to be better. Just like the iPhone was weak too when it first came put. Not as weak as the iPad relatively though.

I thought it would be a real tablet too, but then that would prolly cost > $1,000. It must be a cost decision in this economy. Most ppl who would pay that much for a mobile computer these days unfortunately...fall mainly in the work category. And that's mostly Windows anyway.

But then again, maybe the strategy of Apple is to try not to make it costs TOO much to try to hook ppl onto services and the future $2,000 iPad 4G. LOL

Does the iPod touch have the iBooks and the iBookstore? No

Clearly, it is not just an oversized iPod touch

Does the iPad let you install Adobe Photoshop? No

It's an oversized iPod/Phone dude.

Does the iPhone have iWork? NO
Does the iPhone have GPS? YES
Does the iPhone have iBooks? Has Kindle App

Already owning, I see no motivation for me to buy. I was really hoping that the iPad would be more like a Macbook than just a large iPhone :(

it runs iPhone OS. Trust me, it's an iPod Touch on steroids. :rolleyes:
 
So now Apple will get credit for "inventing" the tablet.

/I've used Fujitsu, Lenovo, and Motion tablets for years. They are real tablets whereas the iPad is a large iPod Touch.

I had 10 coworkers go nuts this afternoon saying how Apple has finally made a tablet computer. They were generally unaware of PC tablets / slates / convertibles that have been out for years and years.

Oh well, AAPL invents another device that already exists and gets credit for it.

there's an app for that :p
while i do agree that it is an oversized ipod touch, iphone and touch users should see the benefit of an oversized version (even though it is a BIT more than just an oversized version).
i have an ipod touch that i never turn off and it lasts for several days. i can just slide to unlock and get instant access to the internet. i can't just leave my macbook sleeping or it would be drained after a few hours unless i plug it in. the fluid UI of the iphone is so great. there have been times, before tablet rumors started, when i've wanted a larger screen for reading to to still have that wonderful UI. the iPad will give me that. will i buy it day 1? probably not, but it is a brand new product/creation so it will take time for it to grow into a masterpiece

why are you on an mac forum if you think PCs are the future of computing? Apple created the first SMARTphone but it obviously wasn't the first with that name tag. PC tablets are "tablets" because of the hardware. The iPad is a tablet because of hardware+software.
 
The iPad is more a product for consuming media than creating it, so that's why it uses a pimped up version of the iPhone OS.

There will be specialised software though as some might see the use of the form factor and all the good things in that iPad, like the specialised apps that already exist for the iPhone OS.


Apple seems to abandon the traditional creative processes with this one step further though, they create "new" ways or let others create "new" ways that can be accomplished with the iPad.

I don't say that this is good or bad, it just seems to be the current direction.

Or why are consumers called consumer?
 
I don't know just my opinion but the iPhone is a lot different than a computer, multi touch, apps on the homescreen, ability to flick through home screens etc. I love apple but, the ipad just seems like a big iPod touch. I was hoping for something like a mac os x computer with multi touch. I was dissapointed, and I wonder how this device will sell?

What the heck are you talking about?

So your benchmark of a product is: if it can't have PS installed it is an oversized iPod?

Have you even seen the incredible software on the iPad. An app like Mail alone is 2000x better and more useable on the iPad.

I've been a Mac user for over 10 years, but thanks for the advice.

(shh, I use Winblowz Pee-Cees (tablets) daily as well....OMG)

I love Apple, etc, etc, but this large iPod was disappointing. Was expecting the Pixel Qi screen or something.

Oh well, moving along. I'll buy one anyway, but it's not suddenly a tablet just because it's large.
 
My 1st Gen MacBook Pro 15" CoreDuo is getting long in the tooth and slow (even though I've added extra ram and a bigger HDD). I've been waiting to replace it and was wondering about the 13" or another 15". But instead I'm going to buy 2 iPads - one for me and one for my wife (I bought her a Kindle at Christmas; when she saw the video about the iPad she said, "I want one!").

I use my notebook almost exclusively for web-browsing and light word processing now. I use my iMac for all my photography. I don't like processing photos on a laptop because the screen is too small.

Given my needs (web-browsing, light doc work), and given how much I travel (and I hate lugging around my laptop and camera and gear), the iPad is perfect.

Do you allude to my view as being apologetic of Apple?

I'm a consumer, but I use my computers for work too, and for my line of work (video editing) I currently see no use of the iPad, but as a consumer I can see the "usefulness" of that device. But as I have already four Macs and an iPod Touch (and maybe another, if I can find it) I don't really would use that iPad efficiently. It would be a "cool" gadget, nothing more. But the future will tell.


So what does "drinking the Kool-Aid" (without the "e") having to do with the consumer and its consumerist habits?
