What was the best decision you ever made?

Not too long ago I was sitting there and thinking, I wonder what everybodys best decision they have ever made in their life was? What was it? How did it affect your life? Where would you be today if you hadn't had made it? And I know you, my fellow MacRumorers, so don't say "buying a Mac" as your answer :D I am not all that old, so who knows what decisions I might make between now and the rest of my life that have a major impact on me.

But for now, I guess it is safe to say that buying a drumset was an unbelievably smart move on my part. It has showed me that I have an incredible talent (much to my own and everyone else's enjoyment), and has pretty much given me a no questions asked career choice. It also has led me to meet some amazing friends that I never would have met unless I were a drummer. It is amazing how so many things, both subtle and life changing, result from something so simple... the Butterfly Effect comes to mind. So you've heard mine, now how about you? Lets hear it.
 
The best decisions of my life would have to be picking up a tennis racket for the first time. Kind of like with your drumming thing, I would have missed a lot of life lessons, and missed a lot of good friends had I not taken up tennis.

Another best decision of mine would have to be getting involved in my high school student council and leadership class. When I think about graduating this May and not going back to work with student council and my leadership family it sucks, but StuCo and Leadership have gotten me a terrific job opportunity for my county as a Americorps representative for Pontotoc county which I am currently looking in to. So hopefully I will still be able to be involved in my community as much as I am now, except getting paid! lol
 
Asking my girlfriend out, simple as.

She is more than a girlfriend, we have been going out for 4 and a half years now and we are on such a level that we both know we are in it for the long run. It has also cemented our relationship with our two best friends who are also going out with each other.

I have already designed the ring and how i am going to propose. Just have to make the time to make the film and the money to get the ring made. Good job i am friends with her boss who is a jeweller.

How about worst decision.

I chose to go to Sheffield University because they made me the lowest offer. I come from just outside London but absolutely love everything about London and could have easily good to UCL or Imperial but i took the easy option. As it turns out i made the grades required for all of my Universities. Still came to Sheffield, too far away from all of my friends, just wish i had chosen any of the others, well except Loughborough (good luck to all your Americans out there trying to pronounce that. Hint "Luff-bra"). Anyway enough of a downer, i've made it this far only got my final year and then i am free to earn and live where i want.
 
Chose not to go to West Point. The summer's coming soon and I sure am glad I won't be spending it in Iraq.
 
I've made some cool ones. My favorite that I can come up with right now is buying a 20 inch iMac over a 17 inch iMac.
 
The selfish one-
Deciding to go to college. I left it until after the last minute, I joined New Media Design 2 weeks after enrolment. Met Caroline (been together since), learnt of my potential, then onto uni, got a Mac purely because of the lecturer, graduate with a potential First Class degree (or just a 2-1) in July.

The non-selfish one-
I convinced my parents to take us on a holiday to Weymouth to go to a new skate park (bless, I was 14 :D ). In reality I wanted to meet a friend. I tried ringing him whilst I was down there, and couldn't get through.
I was on the phone to my sort-of girlfriend at the time. I told her I was running out of credit so she said that she would ring him for me, I decided; why not!
Rollercoaster of events later, my ex-girlfriend is going out with one of the Weymouth guys friend. They're just so happy together. We don't speak anymore but if I didn't give her that phone number then, without going into detail, so much would be different.
 
Drinking too much to drive and sleeping it off at the office one night about a year ago.

Interesting... I remember that. There used to be proof, too.

As for myself, I'm not too sure. I'll muse over it for awhile and if I can think of something great, I'll come back and edit this post. :eek:

:very late edit: I think maybe one of the best choices I've made yet was to leave Cal. It wasn't right for me, it was terribly difficult for me to leave a school that I respected so much and to this day, yeah, I still get some flak from family for "throwing" away my opportunity.

But I am in a better state of being now...
 
... and the polar opposite, my worst decision was to put down "Huddersfield University" as my first choice of uni. I don't know if the rules have changed now, but a few years back if you got your first choice then you either had to take it, or not go to university. I put that down expecting not to get in, but low and behold I got an unconditional offer. Caroline went to Staffordshire university and I ended up going Manchester Met after my college tutor got a job there. So I sorta wormed my way in.

If I had put down Staffordshire as my first I'd be renting a house with my girlfriend, grown a little more independence. But probably wouldn't have a Mac or half the setup I have today, which has pushed me towards game developing... Karma I suppose.
 
Hmmmm, my best decision was prolly bringing my camera to a soccer game I was manager for (hurt my leg multiple times playin so now instead of playin Im manager) Now I have renewed my interest in photography that died out years ago, and Im planning on going to college for it. (I guess those injures were a blessing in disguise:))

me, too. i have to admit, though, that leaving school in the first place was also a very good decision. i wouldn't have wanted to finish school otherwise. coming back, i took the most important class i'd ever taken, meeting the person who's been the inspiration in my life.

haha i have some buddies graduating this spring from west point and they are so excited for what lies ahead. guess you have to be of a certain mold

mine was to not slack off in school as well as all the small decsions that i think have affected my life for the better....as in not getting into trouble lol
 
Deciding to date scem0 even though he's half my age, and buying my dual-core G5 right before the Mac Pros came out. :) They're just too damn expensive.

This is a very interesting question/topic indeed, and yet I can't find an answer. I dunno, I've made so many life changing decisions in the last few years that it's hard to narrow it down to one as I move around a lot.

So I dunno, going to college maybe? Umm moving every may for the last 3 years?

I've always believed in the cliche'd saying that you only regret the things you didn't do with your life. So I try to jump at every opportunity I have and learn from my mistakes when I do.

The again I'm still young(ish) so I'm sure something else life changing is bound to come up soon.
