I bought mine at Best Buy 2 days ago... The light leak on the right-hand (and left) sides are a pain in the *** to me. Not acceptable, I realize most units will have some light leakage, but this is more on the "real bad" spectrum.

So anyways I'm nervous and apprehensive about going there for an exchange - all I want is another 64GB iPad, same model - but from my past experiences BB has been not so kind with returns/exchanges.

If you dealt with a replacement unit @ BB, how did it go?

Thanks, I'd appreciate the input.

I can't speak to Best Buy's exchange policy. However, a couple of years ago when I received a bad MacBook Pro from an online retailer, I brought it to the Genius Bar at an Apple Store. They checked it out, found that they DVD drive was bad and exchanged the laptop for a new one on the spot.

That's not standard policy when you don't buy directly from Apple, but since I had just received it the day before, and it was obviously defective on delivery they were nice enough to help me out. You might give that a try if it doesn't look like you will get a good result from Best Buy.

I have taken 2 back so far and they took them back and refunded me each time without even checking for the issue I said it has. Mine have had numerous wi-fi issues. The product should be perfect. If it's not then you are entitled to your money back.

Take it back. INSIST on a replacement. Light leakage is unacceptable.

I find Best Buy to be pretty good about exchanges/replacements. I purchased 3 Sony LCD Picture Frames recently and had to return two of them due to light leakage. They exchanged them no problem.

Can't say I was pleased. They have a 14 day replacement window that I was not aware of - thought it was a month. My iPad developed a light leak problem in the second week but I wasn't able to get to the store until the 15th and was told I was SOL. On the other hand Apple customer care was great and I got a brand new warranty replacement very quickly. Works better than the original! I'm less likely to buy from Best Buy in the future.

I bought a laptop at best buy and it started having some sound card issues and I couldn't fix it. So I took it back after the 14 day return period got my money back and bought a different hp so you just gotta be nice about it and don't be screaming in their face or have an attitude Good luck :D

The 14 day period is not valid if the item is faulty. You can return it anytime within the warranty period of 1 year by law.

Hmm well I was told (and I was nice) that it was 2weeks for laptops to be brought in for an exchange or refund. After that the manufacturer warranty was in effect and to contact them. Just sayin..

Also, if you're a Reward Zone Silver member - you have a 45 day return window on all items and no restocking fee.

The warranty is through the manufacturer, not Best Buy. Some companies allow Best Buy to service under manufacturer warranty or process a return under the manufacturer warranty while some do not.

Best Buy is in no way obligated to return under the one year warranty however if the manufacturer allows them to and the customer explains it is defective you will usually end up with store credit.

Bestbuy won't normally service the item or repair it. They will just give a refund for the item and you can buy another. I have done this maybe 20 times with numerous items in the last 2 years. I'm sure some best buys are asses about the refunds but our best buy has never questioned my returns. Spent over 10k in there a few weeks ago so they better not mess me around on returns. Sad thing is they know me by first name terms.

Basically when we try and process an out of policy return if there is no agreement with the manufacturer, such as the case with Apple, it just says not possible sorry.

But with some products (HP and a few other companies), it will either say A) Process a return and send the bill to the manufacturer as something that would normally be returned under the manufacturer's warranty or B) Process a repair and just send the bill out to the manufacturer as something that would normally be repaired under the manufacturer's warranty. Like I said it depends on the specific product and the specific agreement.

I was just pointing out the fact that the one year manufacturer's warranty is by no means legally binding to Best Buy.

But yes, Best Buy usually finds ways to process the return for quality repeat customers such as yourself.

The BB near my house is full of (and I hate to say) the rudest people possible. If you have a problem, such as iPad leak - they will first ask you to show it to them, once that happens (and if not you're not getting anywhere) they will ask their "geek" squad to look into it and to fix it - this process of having their guys look at it takes about 7-8 days. Lastly, once you come back you're bound to find more problems than before. Now, please note that I have had good experience as well but not at this specific store - this story is full of idiots. You should check to see how your store happens to be. One more thing: I had bought a Mio GPS for my car as it didn't have a built in dash gps then. The attachment screw at the bottom, where it attaches to the windshield, became loose so I took to BB where I bought from. They gave to their Geek squad people to fix it. After 8 days I arrived back at the store to pick up the "fixed" piece; however, not only was the screw not fix but also the GPS won't start up. I told them they made it worse and they requested I provide them proof this wasn't the problem before (I didn't take a video of the working product before I gave to them). Anyhow, in the end I lost the GPS and all my money plus the cost to "trying" fix it. I'm never ever going to that BB again, if any BB at all.
