What will be suggested about High Pitch Noise when calling apple care?

I have the high pitch problem with my iMac and planning to phone apple care to get it sorted kind of annoying and the sound seems to stick in my head for quite a while after turned off cause hear it so much only way to turn it off is put the brightness to maximum then it just hurts my eyes.

So i wondering what will apple care do, will they just replace the part where the high pitch sound comes from or just replace the unit? had the imac week and half.

Just for curiosity i wondering how many people have the hight pitch sound and who doesnt

If not you are still in the 14 day window, so you can get a full refund or a replacement.

Yes i have Apple Care worry is i don't want a worse machine the first iMac i got had a mark on the screen manufacture damage i guess, 2nd just has high pitch sound, 1 dead pixel and bit of a noisy HDD guess normal though with the seagate

ps i have the similar issue with my iphone 3g but i cant have the brightness below about 20% lol but didnt bother so much since my brightness always passed that

Apple will suggest that its user error and that the high pitch wine voids your applecare.......

It is a faulty unit and you should replace it, if you still can. The best course of action would be to return it for cash and buy another one a few days later (to avoid being sent a "recycled" replacement unit). Yes, it is gambling again, but some people are reporting receiving good, problem free units.

Also, do not listen to malignant misinformation, Apple customer service is second to none in quality and they'll for sure help you.

Cheers ill be calling up tomorrow and see what is said i wont be able to get to apple store till saturday because bit distant to get to

I purchased a 27" i7 iMac on Sunday from my local Apple Store, took it home, and within 20 minutes of booting it up, I could hear this loud high pitched, high frequency "whine" that was almost deafening. It was like an electronic whine but very high pitched like a dog whistle and VERY annoying. I did some research online and found that this was a very common problem with both the 27" and 21.5" iMac. I took it right back to the Apple Store on Monday morning and explained the problem, and demanded they give me a full refund for the unit. I opted for the Apple Gift card, which I am going to probably put towards a Mac Pro instead. I am not buying another iMac again, at least until they resolve this problem. I found out that it's due to the inverter board used for the LED LCD screen on the late 2009 iMac series. I have an older 20" aluminum iMac with a standard LCD and it doesn't exhibit this problem at all. The high pitched squeal on this 27" was loud, and it was directly related to the screen brightness setting. It was loudest when the screen brightness was set between 50% and 90%, but I could still hear the noise when turned to full brightness (but it was too bright to use at this setting). I am just glad I was able to get a full refund for this and not have to pay a restocking fee. This is the first faulty Apple product I have ever purchased, and I am surprised that this is such a widespread problem. I hope Apple addresses this problem and fixes it soon for the next revision iMacs.

i know only few people have used the pole but 50/50 some odds at the moment lol if i get another dud imac i think ill just get refund no point continually taking back to find one with no problems

Called apple booked me a appointment at apple said i can have this one fixed or get brand new one. what does any one suggest ? oh i thought the high pitch noise disappeared at full brightness but i just realised it doesn't just goes more higher pitch

Go for a new one. Repairs are there to fix catastrophic failures, not the manufacturing quality control system. Do you know what else was not tested on your unit?

They'll tell you to do a PRAM reset. Tell them you know what a PRAM reset is and that you have done it several times and have the latest firmware. I found that telling them that you're not a complete noob and you have decent knowledge of the issue gets you bit further and bit more respected. You can imagine the idiots who call up because it wont turn on only to find that they haven't pressed the on button.

when i called them they guy first asked me to turn off and unplug everything then turn back on, then told me he gonna tell me a button combo i said is this the reset the pram etc he said yea i told him i done that, done 2 clean restores, diagnostic test basic and full, techtools with scan surface what ever its called from apple care disk and no errors on anything then he said ah ok. then offered me the two options repair or new since under 14 days but have to take to apple store to genius to see for them selfs.

from all tests i done. i see no yellow tinting, 1 dead pixel, maybe bit of noisy hard drive first 5 days were quiet till the 6th day. no flickering, never see the beach ball. no fan clicking but heard just once when did diagnostic test but turned off and fine again, so didnt think much about it and the high pitch noise i tried to ignore but just tends to give me a headache

I wish you the best of luck. I've had the high-pitched/buzzing noise associated with the screen brightness since the beginning. I've had two replacements, making this current 27" my third iMac. Upon receiving the 3rd (what I consider to be faulty) iMac, I wanted to move forward with just getting a refund. I then had to talk with some customer service agent (more like retention agent) who said that because I've had 3 that an Apple technician needed to inspect it in person and determine the problem. Problem #1, I live 2 hours from the closest Apple Retail Store, Problem #2, the store will be noisy, so it is unlikely that the tech will even be able to hear it with the rest of the noise, Problem #3, I am subject to that particular tech's ears and opinion of what constitutes a "problematic" noise, Problem #4, it was my responsibility to cart the huge thing 2 hours each way to the Apple store, using my car and my gas without a promise of anything in return for my troubles if the tech just so happened to not determine there to be a problem with my high pitched and buzzing iMac.

I've been on the forums here before, I've sent feedback on multiple occasions, I've spoken to Senior Apple Care techs, I've e-mailed Steve Jobs, I've done everything I can possibly do to get my money back out of this machine that I am unsatisfied with, and to no avail. So, if you find a way to make this work, please post it here because I'd love to get this off my hands. I'd sell the damn thing, but who is going to buy it with a noise like this?! I sure wouldn't. So, as I started out by saying, best of luck, and please report back what you're able to come up with.

hi, i gonna leave taking it to apple can not be bothered at all. the hight pitch noise only i can seem to hear . My brothers cant hear it and parents cant, so i don't know if its just case of i got sensitive hearing and its at its best at the moment cause of my age so i can hear it i don't know.

So it kind of stresses me out first apple computer i love it but hate it, might have to listen to loud music all time so cant hear the high pitch noise any more i was gonna choose a replacement one but no point i could end up with a worse one because at moment i got 2 problems i have is 1 dead pixel and the high pitch noise and the chances of getting a perfect one are probably slim to none. i have 2 idevices one has high pitch noise like this imac ipod touch perfect so 2/3 faulty apple goods
