-iPad mini 6 has jelly scroll gate and poorer contrast screen gate than mini 5
-256 ssd has single 256 nand gate so halved read speeds and 2/3 writes for the MacBook Air m2 gate.
-Air 5 more flex gate than air 4

What’s next ?

allowing BOE to make these oled screens?
A14-again-for-more-$$ gate?
Less ram on non pro than previous year non pro?
Slower less accurate Face ID somehow with the hole punch gate?
fingerprint magnet gate like we're seeing with Midnight M2? where it looks like ive been barefisting chicken tendies before caressing the aloomineum?
A notch-brought-more value gate for the Pro's that are a hole punch?
Tim Cook's solo album baked into iOS 16 music app and cannot be removed, and is deeply embedded in the Secure Enclave verification process, gate?
...Water gate, the internals of the device being less coveted by water sealant than previous gens?

The possibilities are endless as the economy and inflation have really done a number on mums and pops Apple shop

You forgot at least three…or four, off the top of my head.

iPhone 4 Antennagate (You're holding it wrong!)
iPhone 5 Scuffgate (Anodization, what's that?)
iPhone 6 Bendgate & Touch Disease

I forget, was “batterygate” (2017) the most recent issue with iPhones? 🤔

Not that Apple doesn’t occasionally make a mistake or stupid design choices (see butterfly key issue on macbooks or the white spot issue on 10.5 iPad Pro), but I thought that iPhones have been rock solid for awhile now.

Mainly overpriced gate. There are now rumors that not only the Pro, but the regular 14 will see a price increase, with the regular 14 at $899 and the 14 Max at $999.

Build quality will be fine as this is the 3rd revision. Yes, there will be screen issues as BOE already was willing to do things outside their contract.

People will buy iPhone 14 because the alternative is iPhone 13 with no price drop. We're seeing it happen with M1 MacBook Air. How many people want to buy the 18-month old MBA for the same $999?

iPhone 14 and 14 Pro will both get a price increase due to inflation. Many people will be driven towards the Pro and Apple will be happy to meet the new demand.

If the rumors are true, older chip in the non-Pro phone is 100% going to generate an utter ********* in the mainstream media and among Apple haters.

They're gonna have a real field day with that one.

I think the most recent ones were the gap-gate where there are 12 and 13 models with the screen and frame having quite large gap.

The 14 series will be fine frame wise as it's the 3rd revision of the design. Similar to the iPhone 11 where we didn't see many issues as it's the 3rd revision as well (from X and Xs). But the BOE screen thing might be a wild card. It seems as if Apple was desperate to either get the volume or get cheaper screens. It wouldn't be surprising if BOE changed specs, again, without telling anyone. They did it once, and Apple still signed the contract anyway. So might as well do it again.

I’m leaving my decision down to the launch as I have an iPhone 12. If the 14 gets a price hike and the 13 remains at last years price, i’ll probably just stick with my 12 for another year. Everything we buy is going up in price and to be honest a smartphone isn’t a priority for many if they have a fairly recent device anyway. I can see myself just upgrading my Apple Watch.

I didnt even think about if they didnt lower the price for 13's or stop selling them all together

What is the value prop for iPhone 14, if its more expensive than iPhone 13 regular and has a price increase?

It’s not going to matter. My prediction is the iPhone 14 mid-models will sell well.

I'm sure they will, and considering the overkill the current chips are already, I agree it won't matter.

I just know there will be a ton of hyperbolic headlines firing off the day the phones are announced declaring that Apple is conning its users by shipping last years chips in their new phones.

14 max makes sense

A comparatively cheaper lighter max phone

The pro’s will have hole punch faceID and a16

What is the value prop of iPhone 14, for one hundred more than iPhone 13, maybe even 200 if the iPhone 13 drops 100 by then and is still sold which I’m dubious of. Just new colors ?

Each of the potential buyers of the iphone 14 will have their own value to price ratio. Totally subjective matter.

llowing BOE to make these oled screens?

I highly doubt that this will be on the minds of many of the potential iphone 14 buyers. Sure, it's clear some will think about the above, but I'm guessing they are in the minority. Won't move the needle.

Of course, my conjecture could be totally off-base and the iphone 14 will be a flop in Apple's opinion as well as the public's opinion. Stay tuned for about 8 weeks and we will see.

I think it’s reasonable to assume less people will be upgrading overall on average due to the global pricing hitting many economies and the cost of living hikes. Whether or not it affects Apples forecasts is anybody’s guess but also do any of us really care if it does? I only care about what my upgrade options are and if they have risen £100+, then i’ll either keep my phone longer or buy an older model at a price I prefer. We are in the minority even discussing these sorts of things on forums as most consumers don’t follow the trends, but will get a phone that suits the budget regardless of hardware specs. I still know people getting by with iPhone 8’s and XR’s! Phones aren’t as exciting as they used to be when technology was changing rapidly.

New features: 6GB RAM, auto focus front camera, and X65 (10Gb 5G).

Maybe 1,000 nit display and braided Lightning cable.

If Apple keeps the iPhone 13 at the current price (high likelihood in my opinion), the motivator for customers will be, "why would I buy last year's iPhone 13 for the same price today?"

BOE has been supplying Apple with MacBook and iPad LCDs for a very long time. LG exited the smartphone business so its R&D no longer has consistent revenue. BOE is basically the only other competitive player unless Apple wants to risk sole sourcing again from Samsung down the road.

It's going to lack that "funny Apple chemical" smell when you open the box, and the cable won't feel as floury

It’s probably going to be screen-gate again. We had raised blacks and red tint. Maybe it’s time for blue tint this year.

Considering Apple was breaking revenue records during the last 2 years of the pandemic, I think their brand value carries means a lot for many people. I’m predicting record sales numbers for the 14 Max, as there is a pent up demand for a large sized iPhone for less. It will be akin to the iPhone 6/6 Plus. The 14 Max will be highly sought after.

If the price of the base 14 does increase, then maybe Apple would use the A16 for the whole 14 lineup.

Regardless, I predict that all this internet drama will do nothing to dent Apple's sales numbers or their profitability.

I don’t know how well they will sell and to be honest I don’t care personally as I have no financial ties to Apple. I just know spending on the whole is down in nearly all western economies due to price hikes on food, energy and travel. Phones are not at the top of everybody’s priority list at the moment and we are in a list worse financial crisis than in 2020 or 2021. It’s not unreasonable to assume a proportion of consumers who would have upgraded this year will now not be. Much of Europe have seen electricity costs go up 250% in the last 2 months and it’s hitting people hard. Whether if not that affects the overall sales of an Apple iPhone remains to be seen.

Exactly it wouldn't just be the fact that the phone would increase $100 that's the issue, but the needs chunk of the budget is bigger, so that squeezes out the wants, which could be a new iPhone for some.
