Any thoughts / guesses what Apple might introduce at WWDC2006 ?

New OS X release ?
New Chip ?
Faster Superdrive for Macbook ?
New MacbookPro ?

If looking to buy MacbookPro, probably smart to wait.
But how about Macbook. Buy Today or wait 2 weeks?

Mac OS X Release: No, they will only be showing a developer built without many of the regular features. Its just to show it off leopard will come out at the end of this year (maybe WWDC07)

New Chip: Well yes and no. Intel is the one releasing the chips here. So if apple is going to stay in the game, they will have to pick up the new chips as soon as they can. I see woodcrest comming out for the PowerMac the server version of the core proccessor (forgot the name), and merom comming out for the macbook pro's.

Faster Superdrive for macbook: no, maybe for the pro but you will not see any upgrades what so ever for the macbooks.

New MBP: hopefully so stevie is the only one who knows but i forsee a new MBP at WWDC if not a new design at least implimenting merom.

If you wanna buy a macbook, do it now.

IMO 10 days is not too much to wait. If possible, wait till Aug 7. I know nothing is going for the MB this WWDC but since you`ve already waited this long, 10 more days wont hurt.

They will add minor upgrades trough their whole line. You couldn't compare the powerpc's to anything else, but now that they use 'normal' cpu's they will have to implement them asap.

So offcourse we will see a new powerpc and a mac mini (too expensive atm for what you get)
Besides that the MBP needs a overhaul, if it wasn't for it's dedicated gpu I would almost say it's inferior to the MB, but carries a much heavier price tag.

So to summarize it:

MB: switch to merom, but maybe they keep yonah and reduce the price with $100 to get rid of them first. Maybe a superdrive in the cheapest one (what $1000+ notebook doesn't have a dvd burner nowadays). This might also eliminate the heat problem since meroms seem to produce less heat compared to a yonah cpu.
MBP: Switch to merom, maybe a 13" model, next ati gpu (maybe x1800?), case redesign (I'm not expecting a huge difference, more along the lines of the ibook/macbook overhaul, so a black metal case and some small changes)

I would personally like to see every apple pc being sold to have a 1gig dimm installed, cause 512mb just isn't going to cut it. Apple's with 512mb are just giving them a bad name if you ask me. I don't mind that much since it's replacable, but still who wants a apple with 512mb?

...

That's the bit everybody's got wrong. I used a 2.0 ghz 1 GB RAM MacBook in Dixons and it felt much more sluggish than my 1.83 GHz 1 GB RAM MacBook Pro. You can't simply compare the processor speeds etc... The motherboards in the two notebooks are almost completely different. MBP is a much more refined design.

I would be very irritated if apple released a new MBP design though... I've just spent £1500 on my MBP and that's an awful lot for a student....

not by my definition of portable

::hugs my less than 3.5 pound thinkpad::

I think it's a fairly safe bet that if Apple released a less-than-3.5lbs computer it wouldn't be called a "MacBook Pro"

Something with the power of a pro but the portability of a book, instead of a full encyclopidia. The powerbook 12" anyone?

I love that thing, it's so sexy, and it's my favorite looking mac of all time.

when they didn't transition it to intel i felt insulted. i would have rather gotten that thing then my intel imac.

whatever the case may be, i'm macless right now, and i have to see how much better 10.5 is compared to 10.4, because if it isn't worth the upgrade then i'm just going to get myself a tablet pc.

i do want a mini however, to hook up to my hdtv, but i have to see how the final version of bootcamp is since i want to run vista on it.

I'll be stunned if a MBP merom gets released; what SJ willl probably due is "announce" it, get the crowd pumped, then reveal its shipping date to be October 2006. Isn't that how Apple used to do it? And we'd be suckers for ooing and ahhing ....

Even if they've "accelerated" updates with Intel on board, I still thinks Jobs wants to squeeze $$ out of Yonah and make suckers of us all who can't stand waiting. That's why I'm buying a MBP, now. 7-10 days worth of time is more valuable than "waiting ... and saving a few hundred dollars."

If you haven't a pc/mac to fall back on, then it's a different case.
I got a hi-end windows pc and a old generation ibook, I got the time to wait hell I will wait 4 months if that's needed. What I'm not going to do though is buy 'dated' overpriced macs...

if the event is august 7-11, when do we see the keynote, and when do we get a chance to order all the new products?

Keynote is the morning on the 7th - macrumours becomes macrumourslive and we get minute by minute updates from the event. Apple will post the video sometime (a few hours or so) later on the website.

Pretty sure any hardware announced will be available for order right away but shipping times may vary.

I'm altering my body clock so that I can watch the event unfold. It would be finished I assume by around this time - 4:15am.... ergh....
