What will happen after my developer expired?

I was just wondering what will happen after my developer account expire next month? I was thinking not to renew my account since we have the free public beta next month. Will I be able to install ios 9 and os x el captan on top of my developer account versions? I just installed El captan because it is now free for ios developer.

So pretty much I have all my devices running all betas. iPhone 6+, Apple watch, and my macs.

iOS betas check to make sure the Apple ID is still registered.

OS X can be installed freely, regardless of wether or not the Apple ID is active.

watchOS, not sure at all. I'd assume same boat as OS X.

So I guess I will have to do a restore with the public beta version next month once my account expired with my ios device.

I don't have such account, but I can still test beta software freely. (Doesn't mean Apple will allow this in future beta test) I never purchase a developer account before, because this does not worth anything to purchase developer account just for using the beta software.

However, you can opt in public beta, and test the iOS 9 with far less bugs than all in this forum running iOS 9 beta 1 found. This should be a good thing for enthusiasts experience the full picture of this software.

Yeah I have both account developer and public, but when I log in into the public account it shows that it will be available in July to test. I am sure developer and public don't have the same built number so I think to be safe I will need to do a restore.

Then what would happen if you log in using your dev account?

If you are a developer, i would pay the $99 renewal. Reason being is that there are a bunch of resources available and the fact that the consumer "betas" are different. There may be an upgrade issue due to conflicting versions?

this is why I will do a clean install/restore with the public built. Maybe for ios and mac as as well?! to make sure everything will sync properly.

You say you use your public beta account to check if there is a beta available, and website says you should wait until July.
So, I wonder, if you use your dev account to check, what would it be?

If you don't restore your device (erase everything), you are likely able to update to all future developer betas when they come.

I think my only concern is when my Dev account expired next month and I keep OTA with my iphone and it gets stuck at the activation screen.

Well, I don't have a dev account, and I refuse to join beta test program due to some reasons.
Now my device runs iOS 9 normally. Apple currently didn't lock my device remotely.
So I think you don't really need to worry much about it.

I see. Thanx for the help. I guess Apple did not bother to check the UDID once you activated your device under ios9.

No worries.
Apple doesn't do this must have its own reason. Maybe they just don't care because themselves have released a beta testing program to interested non-developers, as well.

For some reason it won't let me renew mine. It prompts me to select the program I want to renew but won't allow me to check the box. Very strange. Tried both Safari and Chrome

Didn't they merge different developer programs?

If I were you, I'd either renew my membership or downgrade. There's no guarantee that after an OTA update, you'll be able to keep using your phone, and every beta expires at some point, and this early it probably will well before the GM comes out.

Back up your phone to your computer before installing the iOS 9 beta. Rename the backup so that it doesn't get overwritten by subsequent backups.

Then, go ahead and upgrade to iOS 9. Only do OTA updates if you are home by your computer and can restore your phone to iOS 8 (using the backup you made) in the event Apple enforces UDID checking. So far they aren't enforcing, but they've turned it on between betas before.

This way, your phone will never be bricked while you are on the go. It would be a pain to have to go back to iOS 8, but having the backup available makes it a lot easier.

Either way, you should wait a bit more before making iOS 9 your daily driver. It's pretty darned glitchy still. (I'm running it on a test phone with barely anything on it and am getting resprings and noticing obvious bugs)

iPhone 6 here with iOS 9 b1 and the only problem I get is the ****** battery life. Like I use it for 2 hours and its down to 40% from 100%. It's insane. Fortunately I can keep it charged by my desk all day. Otherwise, there's no way I'd be able to keep it.

As far as bugs go, I never get resprings or crashes. It's the most stable beta I've seen (and I've been using betas since iOS 7 b1)

My developer account is due to expire in August so have restored both iPhone and iPad to 8.3 as clean install then installed 8.4 public beta after that only got iMac to do which will do have restored from El capitan to Yosemite 10.10.4 then once .4 goes general release and install it will opt out from pre release dev software and wait till El capitan public beta is released before putting it back on
