Currently the only two Operating Systems that really matter are Android and iOS. Balckberry is a distant third and very well may make a comeback with BB 10. But Tizen seems to be getting more and more buzz ever since they had it running on a Galaxy S2 HD (it actually looked more like the leaked GS3 pics in a case). And unlike other open source OSs that attempted to challenge Android, this one is back by multiple big names like Samsung and Intel and it can run on
Now we know Samsung is the biggest Android vendor, but you gotta wonder, are people choosing Samsung more than they're choosing Android when they buy a Samsung smartphone? Because if they are indeed picking Samsung first, then Samsung can very well end up dominating the market on a whole new front. Your everyday user could be going in to buy a GS5 running Tizen, and have no clue it's running Tizen. And considering Tizen will run Android apps, the average consumer couldn't care less what OS is on their Samsung device. All the while Tizen gains market share. To me Tizen can make Samsung a company that is very much a hybrid of Google/Apple.

If it looks anything like the videos I have seen on YouTube, I will pass. Its unlikely it would make it to any phone in the US anyways.

Seriously, do you really think the videos your watching truly represent what you will see in production. Considering Touchwiz on the Galaxy S line doesn't look like that, you can bet once it hits production, it's be running something like TW5/6.

@OP. If Tizen does indeed take off, then you can bet Samsung and Intel, will be the ones who benefit the most from all the manufactures involved in it's development. I think the combination of Google buying Motorola, other open source projects failing, and with all the legal battles, Samsung made this move to develop Tizen. They became a board member of the Linux foundation to show how serious they are in developing Tizen. I really think this one stands the best chance to challenge the likes of Android and iOS.

I have no doubt since Samsung has such a good grip on the hardware side of things, they will most likely introduce Tizen to desktops. If this happens, Samsung will be unstoppable. We'll have a better idea in 3 years. I for one will be buying the first Tizen phone just because it'll be the first product to be running an open source OS with bleeding edge hardware tech all from the same OEM. There has never been this combination before.
And for those that might say what about the Nexus phones and iPhones?
First off, Nexus is not made by Google. End of story. And iPhone is also not made by Apple nor do they every have class leading hardware. Samsung is the only OEM to do it all in house, CPU, RAM, and Display. All the most important bits.
Since it is well known that Samsung brings out the big guns for hardware on their high end phones, there is no reason they won't do so for their first Tizen phone. So I'm definitely looking forward for this to happen. The only bad side to this is that the blind followers of Apple will no longer be able to whine that other phones (other than the Nexus) never get updates in a timely manner. :p

Tizen wont be a success

We all know that for you, anything related to Samsung isn't a success. Dude, so much hate in one person can't be healthy. Let's take it one step at a time, you're already buying Samsung when buying your iDevice anyways. Resistance is futile. ;)

Yeah, because the comments section of some video on the web showing developer software and hardware is always the best way to know if an upcoming product will be a success.

Right now it means nothing and i dont give Tizen a 2nd thought and i wont bother with it til it becomes a major player and who knows if it ever will.

Not sure why we even need a thread on something nobody knows anything about and it isnt working on anything being sold right now.

This is literally the first I am hearing of this, which is shocking because I am usually an ubernerd when it comes to tech news. Anyway, this looks very android-esque to me. I am certainly interested, if for no reason other than to see what sorts of lawsuits are added to the mix!

Your inner ubernerd has every reason to be interested. This thing has a lot of potential. I believe car firms are gearing up to use it as a standard in their cars. Unlike, others before it, this one has some real backing behind it.
