I've really enjoyed Gallery, and so has my family. It's been so easy for my relatives to use and download pictures from. I've used Flickr here and there, but to me, it doesn't seem to be as user friendly.

Just curious as to what everyone else will start using.

Another complaint I have is that if I upload to Flickr from within iPhoto, it will only let me upload at 1024x1024. It says in need a Pro account to upload full resolution.

Flickr for me

In the past I used Flickr for public photos and MobileMe to keep Family pictures

I have now just finished moving it all over to Flickr, I do have the pro account and think it is $25/year, not bad really

I've just signed up to Posterous, they offer the private option and put the images in galleries which is what I liked from the mobileme galleries - (privacy and a nice design!)

I'm interested in seeing what others have gone for. I have a flickr account, but I don't really want family shots in there. Same with picasa really as that's now linked to your google+ account.

I liked two features the most for Gallery:
1. Easy integration with iPhoto etc
2. Easy way for family to download whole albums

I liked it also as it was seperate from facebook etc so it's just family seeing it without needing to log in etc.

I could go down the route of a php/mysql gallery, but I really cannot be bothered with that these days.

If I could just make private albums in the Photos app on iPhone, it would solve my issues.

just for your info, incase you are not aware of this

you can create a guest pass to your private pictures in Flickr (which you can disable at ay time), this can give access to a particular set of private photos or all your private photos

I didn't want to initially put family pictures on there

but I have made them available to contacts classed as family, or for those family members that didn't want to join Flickr I created a guest pass for my private/family images

Seems to work fine

A few of my buddies and myself (we are all experienced System Admins and IT Techs) have decided to go for a new startup catering for services towards iDisk and Gallery ... so a Cloud based file store/share system for Files/Photos/Videos/Music

Those 4 will be the main tabs for our whole solution and no clutter/************* .. simple plan/sophisticated design ...

Anybody interested in joining and with experience in Web Design/Prog or Graphics Design or iOS Dev is most welcome to join..

Will keep everyone posted on the progress

Yeah I saw that. I was hoping that maybe the best of my options if it works.

I'm going to try over the next few weeks and see how it goes.

I've been a big user of .Mac Galleries w/iPhoto for years, and will miss it for its convenience (especially for other family members)

I'm thinking of Smugmug as a replacement.
even though it's not free (but still cheaper than .Mac), I really like the high quality look to the galleries, the professional looking layout/templates, and the ability to manage privacy settings on an individual per-gallery basis - something I used in .Mac Galleries too. there seems to be some plugin the let you easily upload iPhoto albums to smugmug.

I've used Flickr for some misc stuff, but my main (large!) photo collection is not there. I realize there are some ways to control private photos in Flickr, but overall I just don't like how Flickr displays photos (somehow, it feels like the photos take a backseat to all the other stuff on the pages in Flickr, IMO).

the one feature of Galleries that it seems to be missing in Smugmug for me is the ability for friends or family members to upload photos directly to my galleries & iPhoto library (e.g. photos of some event we all attended), although they can email photos to a special address to do so.

That's interesting, I'm a PHP developer, but do know CSS/HTML and Javascript.
