Well folks, it looks like we've got a little bit of time to kill. Those of you who are anxiously awaiting the macbook update, I'm curious what you'll be replacing.

I've got a late 2004 ibook g4. The logic board's been replaced twice already and the third one is getting pretty skitchy. I've managed to (mostly) fix it by shimming the GMU half way to [insert foreign and distant city here] and it seems to be holding up (kind of). The power brick barely holds a connection and the cord is wrapped pretty tightly with electrical tape at the joint.

Other than that it's running great. I've beaten the heck of the thing, but I'm anxious for something a bit.... snappier.

So, what about you?

It'll be replacing 'air' for me! Out of a computer since August.. I have a very very old PC as an 'internet' box to keep me linked to the world here and make the wait a little easier. But damn those rumors about yesterday, got me all excited, and then... nothing! :-(

Though I am not planning/needing a purchase till november 11th (after that I have loads of free time for a while, so wouldn't mind spending that with my MB!).

Well,it might replace my 12" iBook equipped with a superdrive+7200rpm 100GB HDD.

Might ,if they manage to squeeze the current Macbook into a bit tinier enclosure. Thinner in thickness and narrower bezel, please.

The challenge is that i am replacing my old 12"iBook,needing a secondary workstation for the studio AND getting a decent, small footprint laptop for work in the outside..

So it should be capable of running a external 24"-30"incher, running LR and PS CS3 AND be small enough to carry around to locations.
MBP would fit the first two,but not the third. And the current MB barely fits the first two and barely not the third...

Aarrrr...as the pirates would say.

Nothing. It will most likely effectively take the place of my main PC desktop as my main computer, as my whole computer life revolves around music (like the rest of my life), and everything beyond that is basic tasking that the Macbook can (will) handle as good, and without-a-doubt, better, than this thing.

My HP Pavillion 48000 "craptop"

I despise that thing. It came with barely enough RAM for it to even run. I had to borrow some from my sisters (same model, not working) to keep the AMD processor from overheating. I've also had to get the hard drive replaced, the CD-Rom, and now the slot to put the wireless card in doesn't work.

I don't have the budget for the replacement , but if possible I will got a Apple iMac 24-inch 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 250GB 1GB RAM .

well, folk i don't know if mine is wores than this guy's but i'll be replaceing a dell inspiron 600m with 256 RAM, a 40 gig hard drive, and a 1.3 ghz centrino processor. I've gone through nightmares with this thing with mythree year warrenty i have had to send it in twice, once because it "exploded" (really because it smoked a little), and another time the motherboard crashed.

good idea for a thread, by the way

wish me luck, caj ;)

Dell

It will replace my 17" Dell 2.0ghz Core Duo. The Dell will become a desktop replacement along with my 24" imac. I really need something that is more portable.

It will replace my Quicksilver 2002 Powermac G4/800 and complement my Pismo Powerbook G3/400 which I'm keeping as it's such a cool laptop.

A new macbook would replace this badboy!;

My 4 year old R40, its seen better days...

I just started a new job as a web developer, and I've been given a new Dell D6 to work with. The thing is its a shared laptop so I can't take it out of the office.

If the macbook isn't updated by the end of the month I might buy an xps1330...

The new Macbook will be taking the place of a sketchpad and pencil which is currently what I use to write all of my musical concepts while on the move. Now with the help of the new Macbook, Apogee Duet and Logic Studio, all of that should be made a lot easier and less time-consuming.

I've never had a laptop before and wasn't planning on getting one. I bought my dad a compaq laptop for his birthday in May ($450) and I've been using that if I needed a laptop. It came loaded with Vista. But I bought an iMac in Sept and my friend bought a MBP a few weeks ago... I have been so blown away by them both that I want a laptop. So that's what my MB will be replacing :D:apple:

3-4 year old Compaq Presario R3000 (15.4" with athlon 64, 2GB, 60GB drive)

My first Mac since a prototype I had after working at a PowerPC startup in the mid-90's.

It will replace my HP Pavilion DV1000 and compliment my new iMac.
I am officially a Mac-girl now!

Sony Cry-oh

I bought a Sony Vaio FRV26 four years ago this month and the HDD is finally going (blue screens at least once a day, battery has ZERO life left, etc).
Thing was great when I bought it, 2.9GHz P4, 512MB RAM, 40GB HDD.
But considering that iTunes library is taking up about 25GB of that 40GB, it is definitely time.
Plus I am dying to run this old PC as an Ubuntu box.
I was ready to buy a new macbook yesterday and found this site... I can wait a couple weeks now that I hear the rumors about the update.

My 5 yr old HP desktop. Ready for something that doesnt take a full minute to load firefox, plus ill be using it for photography jobs

My seven year old PowerBook G3!

Hey, Same here. Probably the best computer I've ever had. Rock solid and have never had a problem with it (knocks on wood.) Just really want something with a little more speed. Try running a 7 year old PC laptop on nearly the latest OS and see how it performs.:D

It will replace my currently ailing Dell Inspiron 4150. This computer is the only computer I have. It features a 1.7 Ghz Pentium 4 processor and 512 MB of RAM :| It's going to be insane how fast the new hardware in the Macbook is going to be.

My 12" Powerbook. It has served me well, but I need to run boot camp for some school programs, and this powerbook can't do that.

I really need the new macbook to be released, so I don't have to go to friends' places to work on stuff. (crosses fingers) Nov. 6

My Macbook Pro will be replacing my (hopefully this monday or tuesday) old gaming desktop.

An AMD FX-57 w 1/gb ram, a lightscribe DVD burner + a Nec DVD DL+- drive, and a nVidia 7800 GT with 256 v/ram.
