What works/What doesn't?

Hi Forum,

I have been away from my imac for about 50 days now and have not had a chance to update my itouch to 2.0 or check anything new features out besides the online mail.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of where I could find a list of what MobileMe was suppose in relation to what it is currently able to do at the moment do to technical stuff.

Major thing to note is that your Mac does not push to MobileMe, it only syncs (set every so often).

Thus MobileMe has decided to drop the term 'push' and has adopted 'sync' instead. Ie. sync contacts, sync calender, sync email.

However, push actually works from iPhone to MobileMe and vice versa and I believe MobileMe pushes to your Mac too. Well, for the most part it should be doing that.

I still have emails arriving on MM in wrong timezones and date formats, but to quote Apple "Its a problem we are working on".. Sigh

Also, does this mean that when my wife adds a calendar event on our home imac, that I won't be able to see it at work through mobileMe web service? Or on my ipod Touch?

For the most part...

For the most part, everything works.

For me the downsides are:
• MM Web interface/iCal is so slow it is useless (but I don't need my calendar on the web when I have it locally).
• MM Web interface/iDisk failed to live up to it's promise of sharing files easily (you can still use your public folder).
I am sure apple is working on these things...

The integration of the iPhone working with my calendars, contacts (my life) is fantastic. I don't know how I ever lived without it!

Waiting 15 minutes for a sync (usually less) when you are at your mac is not a big deal. I just don't understand the complaint in real word usage. It will get there...

At this very momentt I am using idisk to upload 500 photos from my in-laws macbook to my online MobileMe account so I can download them whe returning home.

I'll post when I am done.

Not sure how drop box works, but I just finished uploading 500 pictures on idisk via online and all went well. I just had to make sure that I switched the system preferences on the macbook I was on to never sleep so it would not interfere with the upload process.

FYI...When beginning the upload some Safari not responding thing pops up but I just ignored it.

As for the speed of the upload, it took anywhere from 4-6 seconds per 5.0 megapixel picture.

Not sure if this helps with what you want to know as i am on a Mac learning curve right now.

My biggest gripe is the web client -- its buggy and useless. Once they fix that, the service (as a whole) will be perfect.

The fact that it pushes my emails to my iPhone have kept me from leaving the service.

I agree about the buggy web. Pretty scary actually if you count on it for your work. I can understand why people post frustration threads about MobileMe when they have used .Mac with no flaws. Luckily for me when MobileMe was down, my wife was home and mailed me what I needed through my yahoo account.

Luckily, we got an extra 60 days and hopefully by then, all the bugs will be worked out. I can only imagine that this Apple's highest priority for their devs...

I've found that everything works *technically* but as others have said, the web app is ludicrously slow.

If you like five second gaps between typing a word and seeing it onscreen, though, you're golden!

Browser Support

I have seen total differences between using Safari and FF. For example, when composing an email using FF, typing the recipient's address doesn't auto complete from your address book (while Safari does).
