I've been thinking about this for a while... here's the thing: I have a new IPP 10.5 (before: IPP 9.7, already sold) and also another IPP 9.7/Kindle PW (and the Apple Pencil).

Right now I am selling the IPP 9.7 from that picture (with the TStand). Currently the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 2016 (10.1) is being sold (new) for half the price I am asking for this used iPAD.

The reason I bought two iPADs was for studying. The Kindle PW is only for ebooks that are mostly text (MOBIs). It's out of the question for PDFs. And that size for reading PDFs isn't also what I consider ideal.

Some ebooks have exercises + answers that might even be commented by the author. Using two devices for this task is better than one, and I find that dividing the screen in a single device doesn't appeal to me. And while I write my notes with the PENCIL I might look at the other iPAD screen at the same time.

Or compare two different ebooks. And use them at different moments to not waste their battery so quickly.

But (and here's where I am going with this thread)... once the old IPP 9.7 was sold, I was thinking of buying another 10.5. Then I decided (and this isn't only because of the expenses involved, I don't buy products based solely on what they cost) it was overkill.

That's when I began to consider the Galaxy Tab A (which I never used, only read some reviews), that also has a pen and can be used for these PDFs (note: some I own are 100-400 MB). In the iPAD I use this app:

What I want to know is if it's worth buying this Samsung model and if in my place you would do the same thing or choose another device (not necessarily from them or Apple).

Please note this isn't a thread where I am asking if as a primary device someone should buy from Apple or Samsung.

It's not that, since I already have the IPP 10.5. I am only asking what should be done considering the objectives explained before. The reasons and the use intended for the 2nd device.

I have a kindle paperwhite and I have a 10.5 iPad Pro. I'd say these are two different products that serve different needs.

I can use the paperwhite and read for a much longer amount of time then I can with the iPad. Yes, the iPad's screen is larger, but the harsh backlight does seem to give me eye fatique, where as the paperwhite does not. Likewise, holding the kindle for extended periods is no problem.

I'm not knocking the IPP, but I think the kindle does its own thing so well, I prefer that.

A Kindle will never replace an iPAD because a huge number of ebooks are only available as PDFs. And many aren't only pure text.

A significant number isn't available in the Kindle format (even if stripped of their complexity/graphic contents), if you try to read a PDF in a Kindle you'll see how it fails to do justice to any of them.

Anyone who tries to scan a book will notice that creating a Kindle version isn't exactly an easy task, even though software like ABBYY FineReader do a good job you still need to review THE WHOLE THING, since it can fail to detect some parts and replace some letters, changing the meaning of a few words.

It can take a lot more time to do OCR instead of just saving a 50 MB file in PDF, only made of images reduced to a quality that can be magnified in your favorite ebook reader. Perhaps that explains why many are still in PDF only.

Of course a Kindle version is only a shadow of what you had in the real book or can obtain by saving as a PDF. There are some books that will never get a Kindle version, too, imagine trying to convert something like a magazine to be read in a Kindle...

Reducing the brightness isn't the only one, others need to be taken into account, specially how your room is adjusted to spread light. One of the most important is black background for reading, something that can be accomplished with Adobe Acrobat Reader for iOS.

The visual comfort (and the size/weight) are perhaps the only advantages a Kindle can have, and that's about it.

Since the Kindle is not an alternative (in my case even if it was perfect I woudn't consider due to the size of the screen) I am thinking if I should have another similar device to this IPP 10.5.

So far my answer is yes, and like I said this is the only product I am seeing as an alternative to the IPP 9.7

Something larger than a 10" tablet won't work for me, too. Since I bought the IPP 10.5 that means I am not going to settle for anything bigger.

Is this true? 20% of the battery is drained each day even if you close the cover and don't use the device (leaving in standby)? If so this is definitely worse than any iPAD I can think of. Battery is another factor I strongly consider when buying a new device.

And from what I saw if left between the Galaxy Tab A 2016 and the Tab S3, the latter would not only be so much better, but lighter too, something that is also very relevant to me. The Tab S3 has the same weight as my IPP 9.7.

I wonder if there is another device that can do what I want, isn't that bad and it's cheaper.

I decided to scrap this idea, at least for a long time. The price I was asking for this IPP 9.7 128 GB wifi wasn't a success due to hagglers, the economic recession that has dropped the sales for every product (not just tablets, that nowadays aren't selling at all). I hate devices smaller than them, never liked iPhones.

I think Apple did a mistake with this iPAD 2017 (inferior to the "Pro" version) and also with only offering 64/256/512 GB models. I was thinking of buying a 2nd iPAD, but refused to get the 64 GB version for the 10.5 size. Since there was no 128 GB model I would be forced to get another 256 GB.

I think the only device from all I looked into that is remotely good is really the Galaxy Tab A 2016 (10.1). However I feel even this one it does not match the IPP Pro 9.7 (they were released at the same time) and the newer model, like I said, has a battery issue. When you hear multiple people saying that you get scared.

And honestly even though I haven't tried these tabs, just from videos I can see them as cheap and I don't mean just the price asked. Even the covers don't look good.

Perhaps it would be wise for me to wait a couple of years for Apple and the others to release more products with improved screens and technologically advanced, to a point I might end up paying even less for the ones mentioned, and when it will make sense to sell this IPP 9.7. To wait until there are even tablets from other companies that can match the IPP 10.5.

Plus I don't think I like the fact this Galaxy Tab A is even heavier than the IPP 10.5, which I already think in terms of weight is a little noticeable, compared to the 9.7 Pro.

One thing I am sure, this IPP 10.5 will not get iOS 11 for a long time... not until I can be 99% sure this isn't going to affect the battery.

And despite my dislike of Apple I don't think Google and their OS are that reliable.
