Hi, I got my new rMBP yesterday and it came with mavericks. I did the latest update for that and then upgraded to Yosemite. Would you do a clean install on a brand new mac?

Not sure whether to do it or not.

I wouldn't.

Not because it's bad but just because I value my time. There's no big reason not to or anything.

But I really don't think it will change anything.

yup. most definitely. Takes 30 mins tops and you avoid a lot of potential problems. :)
 
I'm guessing do it through Recovery Mode > Disc Utilities and then erase the hard drive? Then go to Reinstall OS X?
 
Absolutely no need to clean install on a brand new Mac.

It is the one occasion, where I would say upgrade, basically because apart from the OS, it is completely clean. No Apps installed, just the basic user profile..

The reason to clean install is normally to clean out the crap, bad apps, corrupted user profile, etc that will interfere with a successful upgrade. A brand new Mac has none of that.

I did all the Mavericks updates so there wasn't anymore to do and then went straight to Yosemite. Some saying i should clean install and same say no as its brand new.

Not sure what to do really.

i think so though i'm not terribly familiar with wiping macs so you may wanna double check with others before doing so, but it does sound right. Just make sure you have a solid and fast internet connection cause it may need to pull the OS off of the net and the OS is roughly 5.7 gb's.
 
If your Mac is new, you don't have data to migrate, so a clean install is super easy. If you think you'd prefer a clean install, now's the time to do it. Otherwise later it will become more and more difficult to do it.
 
If you're not having any trouble, a bare metal clean install is a waste of time IMO. If you had a machine with tons of software installed/removed, upgraded hardware and removed hardware. Updated over MANY revisions of OS X and so on, I could see a clean install making you feel better.

In the end, it's your machine and your time, do whatever trips your trigger :cool:
 
Seems like the clean install is slightly the preferred choice. May have to do that then.
