What would you do?

Hi,

I had another post asking about people with the lower memory slot issue, but no response. Here's the situation:

I have a chance to pick up an aluminum powerbook 1ghz for $500. After seeing it, I was amazed at how nice it was. The screen was recently replace so that is brand new. The cosmetics are great, and everything works fine. And most importantly for me the airport extreme picks up the signals better than when I had my previous aluminums.

The one bad thing about is the lower memory slot issue. Again it works perfectly, but it is out of warranty.

Is this a good deal that you would take for $500? Do I have to worry about the logic board dying out suddenly when it is working fine with the 1 memory chip? I only need the machine for basic portable needs, mainly web browsing, typing, some music, movies and photos.

And for the powerbook in my sig, I have already several people in line who are willing to pay about the same amount, so this is like an even trade in terms of money.

What would you do?

So you suggest that I get the aluminum 1ghz and sell my titanium 400 then, right?

Do I have to worry about the logic board/memory slot issue worsening?

For $500, BUY BUY BUY. I think you'd probably get more than $500 for it if you immediately sold it on Ebay.

Okay, it seems like a good enough deal.

Now the question is (as you mentioned), should I keep it or sell it to make a little profit.

My current powerbook is great also. But I wouldn't mind the extra screen space, and the airport extreme seems pretty fast and the range is good. Of course having the nice aluminum casing is cool too.

Selling some of the parts separately, like 1 of memory chips and the keeping the 80gb hard drive from the ti400 will actually get me more money than the amount I would be spending on the 1ghz.

I've had aluminum powerbooks before, and ended up selling them since they were quite expensive and got the ti400. But for $500 I wouldn't mind keeping an aluminum.

But how about the memory issue, is that something that will be terrible in the future?
