It seems that push notifications has been out for a while but not a lot of apps are implemented for it. Seems like the only real use for Push is IM apps. Give me some ideas of what you would like to get notified for.

Wirelessly posted (iPhone 3GS (White, 32GB): Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7C144 Safari/528.16)

Facebook.

App Store.

How about having the weather app update its icon with current temp and condition, though Apple could also make this a background app.

eBay's new app version does push notifications, which is nice.

Two others I can think of right off the bat are Facebook notifications (coming in 3.1 I've read) and To Do list reminders.

Oh, a customizable watch list which sends out notifications when a new version of an app you own is posted to the app store.

How about severe weather notices from The Weather Channel or other source.

Another thing I wouldn't mind seeing is an app for my Mac that would be programmable to watch for various actions and send out notifications based on them - for example, send out a push notification when I receive a fax, when someone puts a file in my public drop box, if a RAID error notice occurs, etc. Fully customizable. People could come up with all kinds of uses.

If you can set it up so Growl gives you notifications for those events on your Mac, you can use Prowl to send a push notification to your iPhone.

For those looking for Facebook Push Notifications, there's a way to do it (at least there is on OS X).

If you download the new Facebook Notifications app:
http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=219303305471&ref=nf

and

Growl
http://growl.info/

and

the Prowl app for iPhone
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=320876271&mt=8

You can get push notifications for Facebook messages and for Facebook notifications.

It's a great set up until Facebook 3.1 is released.

(I also use Growl/Prowl to get Handbrake/Tweetie/Transmission/Dropbox updates, as well)

When people say appstore, what exactly do they mean by appstore? I don't get it.:confused::confused: Are you saying for app updates? The appstore icon already have badges for that?

There's an app for that. Called "Weather Alert" and it's $.99 in the app store. I've had it since spring, and it works great. We only had one severe weather event this summer though. Kinda lame.

Facebook (iPhone app maker) announced that push was going to come after 3.1 came out so I hope it will come out soon.

It has badges but they only show if you open the AppStore or Sync your iPhone/iPod to iTunes and don't update the apps on there. We want push notifications for the AppStore!!! Playing a sound, showing a message (with name of App and update version), and badges showing up automatically.

Tweetie.

Not for the whole timeline, but pushes for @s and Ds

I guess it could silently badge the number of new messages in the timeline, but obviously popups and sounds for every single tweet would get old fast.
