I upgraded my Core Solo Mini to a 1.83Ghz Core Duo today, and noticed a dramatic increase in the load temperatures. I was wondering what other people were averaging on their Minis as far as load temps go?

I'm hitting 69-70 degrees at 80% on both cores, and it's hit 80+ a few times at 100%. I've also got the fan spinning at 4000rpm right now. Idling it stays in the low 30's.

I'm assuming this is not normal, and will probably pop it back open and reapply some Arctic Silver tomorrow. But... still, what do you guys get on your Minis?

Okay, I biked over to MicroCenter and got some actual Arctic Silver 5 compound, instead of the "Silver Grease!" I was using - and I now max out at 48-50C (fans at 3000rpm). Holy crap, what a difference. I'm idling in the upper-20's with my fans at 2500rpm.

Let's see, your 165 = 73C. Yeah, that's what I was getting as a max on my Solo. Nice to see what a big difference the right thermal grease makes!

Update: Ok, after a few hours of 100% use, it seems to have settled in at the mid-60's. That's not too shabby, I was maxin' out there with the Solo. A lot better than the 90+ degrees I was getting with the generic grease, still.

My 1.66 Core Duo idles at about 48C and the fan at 1470s.

Load it gets to like low 70s. I've never seen my fan speed increase though. Maybe I didn't leave it under load long enough.

With such a small heatsink and fan, every bit of thermal transfer helps. Glad to see that Arctic Silver helped.

Yeah, the fan doesn't really ever come on on its own, it seems. I use smcFanControl to up the speed a bit on my own. Actually, they did come on on their own when I hit the 90's.

I use Temperature Monitor, since it fits in the menu bar, but you can use Core Duo Temp (has a widget), or the temp monitor in smcFanControl.

Thank you. I tried Core Duo Temp a long time ago, didn't work for me.

Hmm... running iTunes, Safari, iChat, Firefox, iPhoto, AIM, ABiword, and Tominated browser, Mine is at about 130F, or 58C. With the fan at 1500
