What's a Fair Price To Charge for this?

I'm considering selling my eMac. I just find myself using it less and less. I have a G4 tower that's a media server and a Pismo that is my constant companion. The eMac's basically ignored.

It's the 1ghz with Airport Extreme slot and 512 Mhz of Ram, original mouse and kb and an 80 gb HD.

What do you guys think is a fair asking price?

What kind of optical drive? Is it USB 1 or USB 2?

I'm thinking around $400 or so, eMacs don't have great resale value (I own one myself.) Maybe more if you have a DVD burner, but EBay prices seem to be around that range.

Depending on the condition and the optical drive you could probably get anywhere from $450-550 US for it.

I wasn't trying to make a sale. I was saying I spoke to my folks, who are possibly interested in buying this.

There are a few used retail sites selling eMacs, you can offer them a discount.

Generally new ones start around $625 at the education store.

For a private sale, I think $500 would actually be fair. I mean they could try to save $50 or so buying on EBay, but then you don't know for sure what you're getting, have to pay shipping, etc.

Apple sells a 1GHz refurb for $549, but it has a smaller HD and only a CD-ROM. These are relatively easily replaced, but not by newbies (especially the HD.) It is a USB 2 model (downclocked from 1.25GHz), which is nice for the current iPods but otherwise not a big deal.

I've actually done it. Went from a 80 GB to a 160 to a 40 and now putting the original 80 back in for sale. It's daunting at first, but once you do it once you can do it again and again.

However, no one can pay me enough to crack open a G4 iMac.

I always find that the best way to figure out about what your Mac is worth is to pop on eBay, do a search for the same model, click the box to only show completed aucitons, and look what things actually sold for. Sort of like the ultimate realtime resale price tracker, although as said, if you're selling to somebody you know and are putting in some support it's fair to jack it up a little since there's no shipping or risk.

Oh, c'mon, it's fun! So long as you have thermal paste, a lot of space, something to support the screen, and a lot of time and patience, that is.

Really? I found it easy. Loved how the tray popped right out.
