I just recently bought an ibook and I was wondering what a normal temp was for it's cpu. Also when I use us my ibook with cpu heavy tasks (running virtual pc) it seems my machine just gets hotter and hotter. I've yet to hear a fan go off. Is that normal? Most of the time my iBook gets so hot I lower it's cpu speed to keep it from getting too hot.

My ibook fan comes on at 140 degrees Fahrenheit. But dont worry about the temps, its not like you overclocked it and even if it does get too hot the ibook will simply shut down to prevent meltdown.

My iMac (G5 isight) very rarely goes under 60C (140F) and usually sits around 65C (149), I had been wondering if this was normal or not too. It seems pretty hot considering it is winter and my room only gets to about 20C with the heater on.

Thanks guys my cpu runs at the ranges you stated. I guess it feels hotter than my temp gauge says. I seriously hope the iBooks fans are super quiet...Since mine haven't gone on once.

That seems slightly on the high side to me, but not dangerous. Some of the components are only rated to 70C, but manufacturers give large heat tolerances so even at 75C risk of damage is slight.

Edit: it also depends on which temperature sensor you are measuring.

I have the same machine and my temps are (at the moment, and they seem to be quite standard):

CPU: 143°F/ 61,6°C
GPU: 125°F/ 51,6°C
Incoming Air: 82°F/ 27,7°C
HD: 107°F/ 41,6°C

I have seen my iBook go as high as 70C at times.

Around 60C is when the fan starts blaring away.

But its usually at 35-40C.

I cant check my eMacs temp, at least using miniCPUheat (dashboard widget)

my iMac usually @ 70-73?C while idle and 73-77?C while CPU is 100% loaded.

HD Speed is around 38?C while after sleep, but once any HD-intensive process runs is about 58?C, after that it stays at 58 level until next sleep.
