Hello !

This is my first post / question ever on this forum. I have been avidly following the diverse forums related to the new Macbook Pro since beginning of 2016.

My use case is the following:
1) Light web usage (Chrome 15 tabs max. with use of Intensive Google Sheets - around 100 tabs importing data)
2) Office Package (quite heavy excel files)
3) Charting Software (with real-time data download, low spec. requirements but can be harsh on RAM sometimes)
4) Few lightweight apps + few GB of music / photos
5) Currently taking 100 GB out of my 256 GB

I am currently using #1 to #3 on an Asus Zenbook 13'' (with core i5-4210U - 1.7 with boost up to 2.4 Ghz / RAm = 8 GB / 64-bit)

I am using #4 and #5 on a MBP 13'' from mid-2010 (making its way to the cemetery) and would love to merge my charting computer (the Asus) with Macbook Pro on my next purchase (within days). I will probably need to create VM or use Parallels for that.

Having read a lot on this forum, I do not want (nor need) to be a guinea pig for Apple and its touchbar therefore ruling it out for the moment.

In short, I would like to know:
1) if I can do with the base model (nTB / i5 / 8GB / 256 GB)
2) if I should be upgrading to a 15'' quad-core (but do with poor battery life and touch bar)
3) If I should buy a 2015 15'' instead of 2016 13'' nTB for performance and bigger real-estate (but no future proofing here)
4) If I should upgrade the nTB (i7 / 16 GB / 512 GB) for future proofing and performance at a pretty hefty price hike

I am on a budget (not tight but I do not wish to splash the money unwisely)

P.S: I don't do any video / photo editing but might use a 4k display in the near future

Thanks a lot for your replies
/M
