What's better for music production
Apple Mac Studio m1 max 64gb ram or standard mac mini m2 24gb ram? I will be using logic pro with stock sampled instrument plugins and stock sytnths. Will also like to use Naitive Instrument Komplete 14 Standard/Ultimate with it in the future. I have £1900 max budget and willing to buy secondhand for the right mac mini or mac studio if need be. Any advice would be appreciated.

This question comes up from time to time, and I always recommend future-proofing. If you have the budget, get the M1 Max Mac Studio with 64 GB of RAM.

Im in the market to buy an Apple Mac m1 desktop computer. Either a mac mini m1 with 16gb ram or a Studio max m1 with 32gb ram or 64gb ram if needed. I will be using logic pro for recording vocals, using stock sampled instrument plugins and stock synths. Will also like to use Naitive Instrument Komplete 14 Ultimate with it in the future. Is 64gb ram overkill or future proofing?
Any advice would be appreciated.

I remember this came up the other day in a similar thread, but it looks like your options have changed somewhat. 64 GB of RAM may be overkill for running stock instruments and plugins, but as you expand your arsenal, you'll need more RAM. 16 GB is definitely not enough, so go with at least 32.

Thanks for your feedback. I think I'm going to take the plunge and go for the 64gb ram m1 studio max. That way I can hold on to it for longer. Hi hope you have a Happy New Year!

If you are going to use dozens of sampled tracks and many vocal takes, you need lots of RAM. But for basic recording and a sampled piano, you can use an iPad.

One the one hand people think that should buy one expensive Mac and keep it for 5 or 6 years but you might be better to buy only what you need and then upgrade sooner. The upgrade Mac will be far better than anything you can buy today and later the prices will go down for a level of performance.

Computers have always gotten cheaper over time for a fixed level of performance so they are horrible investments. Computers are only second worst to bananas as a long-term investment.

The best why to research this is to go to an Apple store and load up 20+ sampled instruments and a half dozen and see how it works. Then buy a Mac with about 50% reserve capacity. But that would take some effort and time.

If you ask for advice online you ALWAYS get the same conservative answer. "buy as much RAM and storage as you can possibly get"

Hi all. I want to buy a mac mini m1 16gb ram/ 2tb SSD, to use with logic pro x and native instruments Komplete standard 14. Would this mac handle using these instruments/ synths/plugins? I will also be recording upto around 10 vocal tracks.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

M2pro Mini, 32gb, SSD whatever size you need or can afford.

The CPU and RAM may be more important than internal SSD size (you can add external SSD).
