What's going on with my 27" iMac?

Now while I've noticed the consistent spinning balls, hang ups and slow response. My wife mentioned it to me just a little while ago. We are both new to Mac's and just spent quite a bit of money on this machine but I find it quite laggy.

Any idea of what's going on? We don't do much more than email, internet and music [iTunes].

A lot of people have been experiencing that with Snow Leopard. I had it on my MacBook - no I'm back to plain old Leopard.

Hopefully 10.6.2 - which should come out pretty soon - will fix your issues!

I don't know if the two are related but I'll asking any way.

When we're away from the computer for a little while, I guess it goes to sleep. It seems to take forever for it to come back awake. While the whole time we get a spinning disk. I would almost bet I could power up the iMac faster from the off position by the time it takes to get rid of the spinning disk.

Are these two related? If not, how do we change the settings to stop this?

I just posted in another thread how resetting the PRAM on my 27" imac solved a major problem I was having in garageband (pausing, freezing, etc). Didn't think to do it right away since the comp is brand new.

Ghost, you should not be having these issues. Macs normally wake from sleep super fast. My old iMac and my MacBook Pro are a matter of seconds.

As for the slow responsiveness, there are some procedures that can be done to help. Check out this handy application... https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/778819/

If all else fails you can reload Snow Leopard, if that doesnt work you can probably return your iMac for a brand new one.

Also, there is a setting in system pres for sleep under the Energy Saver menu...

My guess is you guys set up right outta the box, I have heard similar probs like this with the new generation of iMacs being real sluggish outta the box, what I would consider is probably doing a Repair Disc Permissions either by going to applications-Utilities, Disc Utility.

Or... restarting your compy with the CD in drive, after you hear the bong, hold down the C button, go into utilities at the top, disc Utility and repair disc permissions from there, if that doesn't help I may want to try a clean install of the OS.

Yes but on my MacBook Pro, sorry, I should've pointed that out...
