I got Applecare on my new 3gs only because the salesman threw it in for half off. I don't really want it. Since I didn't open the box, can I sell it or is it attached to my iPhone?

If it hasn't been activated then you can most certainly sell it. Go onto Apple's site and find their warranty status search tool (I'll look for the link after I post this) and see if your phone says it has the standard one year warranty or if it shows it extended for two years instead. If it is just the standard one year warranty then you are all set to hock that thing.

EDIT: Here's the LINK

If you bought it with your iPhone (on the same receipt) then it is already activated on your iPhone so you cannot sell it.

You can check your warranty by going here: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do (link isnt working for me right now but will work soon)
If is it over 1 year left, then the apple care is already in play and you cannot sell it.
