Whats it worth?

I've searched ebay, kijiji, and mac2sell.net, and come up with a huge array of prices. I'm thinking of selling my Mac Pro (Early 2008)

6GB Ram
1 OCZ Agility 128gb SSD
2x320 Seagate HD's (Raid 0)
1x 1TB Seagate for Time Machine
2x2.8 Quad Core Xeon Processors

Would also like to sell the my 23" Apple Display as well.

Thinking of getting an apple 27, and a mac mini server.

Any clue what it would be worth?

Any particular reason for wanting to downsize?

Sites like Mac2Sell are a bit limited in the metrics they use for valuing used Macs. For example, there's really no field for specifying specific GPUs, additional hard drives and expansion hardware outside of the basics.

Looking at completed auctions on eBay is probably your best bet, because it will give you a better real world idea of what you can expect a real person to pay for your machine.

I'd say you're probably looking at around $1800-2000 maximum with the ACD based on its current configuration, although you haven't mentioned what GPU is installed.
 
Its got the base graphics card ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT 256 MB

I just want a bigger monitor, and a newer processor I guess... Don't really need all this power for what I do
 
Hmmm...okay.

Well, you'd actually be looking at a slight downgrade in CPU performance going from what you have to a Mini Server. The 2GHz quad-core i7 is the only option you have there. Judging by Geekbench numbers, your Mac Pro is faster than the Mini Server in both 32-bit and 64-bit benchmarks.

You can upgrade GPUs on your current Mac Pro. On the Mini, you cannot. The Mini is also limited to slow Intel graphics.

You're giving up quite a bit IMHO, unless the above doesn't really matter much to you. If you sell the 23" ACD and get a new 27", you'll have the bigger monitor you're wanting and still have a fast machine. Food for thought.
 
I actually very recently did the same thing.

Here is what I had:

2008 Mac Pro
2 x 2.8GHz Quad Core
10GB RAM
4 x 1TB
ATI 4870 Video Card
20" Apple ACD

Here is what I bought

2011 Mac Mini Server
120GB OWC SSD
750GB 2nd HD
8GB RAM
27" Thunderbolt Display

I sold the Mac Pro locally for $2500 and was able to cover the cost of my upgrade.

I didn't utilize the Mac Pro fully anymore as I now only use the computer for internet, email and some Handbrake encoding once in a while, so I am benefiting from the bigger screen and decreased sound/noise/heat/space/power comsumption of the Mini

I haven't noticed any real difference in speed (actually with the SSD the Mini seems a little faster sometimes) but I don't do anything really intensive anyway, and I don't play games on the machine
