What's it worth?

I have here the following system:

• 2010 Mac Pro CTO
• 2x2.93ghz 6-core processors
• 32GB of OWC RAM (8x4GB) + the original Apple shipping RAM
• Dual Superdrives (official Apple units)
• 4x1TB Western Digital Apple HDDs
• Apple RAID card (newer version, supports sleep and what not)
• eVGA 680 GTX 2GB Graphics Card (Mac Edition, **NOT** flashed!)
• Apple ATI Radeon 5870 Graphics card (brand new replacement, used for ~1 month)
•*Airport + Bluetooth

I have the boxes and all original shipping materials for the machine, eVGA GPU, and ATI graphics card. The original 5870 had a bad fan and was outright replaced by the newer 5870 card, which was purchased for full retail directly from Apple (cost me over $500). It was used for about a month before I upgraded to the 680 GTX, so it's sitting in an anti-static bag in the original shipping Apple box. System is in perfect condition. There are no scratches (however small), dings, or dents anywhere.

I'm wondering what something like this is worth today.

You should take a look on eBay and see what the going price for similar builds are.

You could probably sell either the Radeon HD 5870 or the Geforce GTX 680 Mac Edition on the side.
 
Just as a Guess I would say with both cards $1000.00 plus. As was mentioned could also sell the GPU's by themselves for a decent amount.
If you were to sell and ship. Shipping would be expensive. My 2 cents worth

I would be leaning towards more than $1000, definitely on the PLUS side. Basic dual CPU 2010 cMP are easily about $1000, then he has Apple brand parts including two video cards, each of which is worth a few hundred. The extra RAM, etc.

I'd guess closer to $1500. Not to mention, the 2010 version makes for easier CPU upgrades as the CPU tray used normal (lidded) processors.

That's my 2 cents worth. :)
 
I was under the assumption that the Pro 2010 had un-lidded processors if in an Octo setup? Am I wrong? I think the 2009 quad has lidded processors.

And yes definitely on the PLUS! side of 1000.00

And yes buyer would flip the bill on shipping.

Incorrect, the 2009 used de-lidded cpus in dual config, the single config 2009 as well as both types of the 2010/2012 use standard Cpus.
 
$2,500 - $3,000 as an eBay final sale price.

You may be better selling the GTX 680 and RAID card separately ($300 and $100).

$2,000 without the GTX 680 and RAID card is totally feasible and you attract a larger audience for the best value. Anyone looking to upgrade the graphics or for who it doesn't matter won't care about giving you the value for either card and very few will care about the RAID card.

I'm a bit shocked by the prices (not saying anyone is wrong- you're all correct and eBay confirms that). I'd originally paid upwards of $9K for this machine when it came out, and was hoping it'd be worth somewhere around $4500. It seems like that's impossible given how cheap the 2009 machines are selling for, and even the 2010/2012s to a certain extent.

I was, but unfortunately it just doesn't look like the machine is worth nearly as much as I thought. At the moment, I simply can't afford to sell it. I realize the price will probably come down even more by the time I am ready to let it go, but that's life- I just don't have the cash right now to start swapping out hardware.

YMW! I'd say use this machine as long it can do the job decent and meanwhile save up for new hardware in the future.

Some of the prices quoted above are what those forum members would like to BUY your Mac Pro for from you.

A non modded 2x2.26GHz 2009 4.1 probably sells between $700-1000.

But those CPUs of yours are still OK. Not the best, but also not weak. You've got somewhat current gfx with a good original card that is valuable to lots of people with non flashed PC cards.

Perspective:

Just the tray: $600
Just the heatsinks: $500

If you break the Mac Pro up, it might actually amount to more as separate parts.

But consider buying one of those $10 SSD blade PCIe adaptors. With the latest Apple/Samsung SSDs you get 1500MB/s for OK money.
