What's normal CPU temp? I just installed a w3570 CPU into my 09 MP and noticed on iStat that my CPU temp at idle is 40 C and between 45 and 50 C under some load. This seemed high so I reapplied the arctic silver, no change!

My single-processor 2010 3.33 hex-core idles at around 28-30C and under load is generally upper 40s (ambient 22C) but I have seen it higher when doing maths. I'd say you are about right.

Same here - 38ºc idle, Safari and other light apps.

Around 41ºc while running heavy flash in Safari (I use clicktoflash to avoid most unwanted flash).

It can go up to 60ºc under very heavy load - all cores @98% (eg. Handbreak rip), but I usually use smcFanControl to cool it down during such tasks.

cheers!

Anything below 80 is normal.

Anything below 95 is safe.

I don't think I've ever been below 90. In fact, right now CPU's A and B are both at 100. CPU's C and D are at 95. Is there any real risk in that? I'm around these temps (or 5 degrees hotter) every day.

My memory modules are what really concern me. I have a couple in the 170 degree range

Celsius, mate. Celsius. :p

Hrm, I seem to run hotter than most of you. This is after 5 minutes of running Starcraft 2 at the login screen and rendering an image in C4D. Stressing the CPU a lot and the GPU a bit (4870). Idle temps range from 40-50C. This is abnormally hot?

edit: bumped up the intake and exhaust fan speeds to 2,000RPM each. The temps have quieted down a lot to sub-75 almost across the board. Hrm, interesting. I would have thought Apple would have been fairly aggressive with fan ramping to keep it cool. It is a workstation after all.
