Hi all,

I am a Mac Newbie. I have a recent switcher. Just did it last night. And i had a quick question. I pulled my Macbook out of the box and i checked my HDD Space, about 15 gb was being used, is this normal out of the box and is there anyway to get any of that back. Thanks all.

Hi noob. :D
Let me introduce you to the Forum Search tool. This question has been asked numerous times.

Yes that is normal and yes you can get it back.

The major space hogs are:

-iLife, the newest version is about an 8Gb install. Of that most of the space is Garage Bands loops (3-4Gb) and iDVDs themes (1-2Gb). If you don't use these check in /Library/Application support for the offending files.

-Printer drivers, there are about .5 Gb pre-installed. They are contained in /Library/Printers.

-Other languages. Using monolingual to remove all the languages that you don't use can save up to 1Gb of space.
