I have a Radeon 5770 in my 1,1 Mac Pro; I purchased an Arctic Accelero S3 cooler for it, and, while I eventually got it installed after some complications, it ended up not fitting in the #1 slot. I went to remove the extra heat-sink that fits onto the bottom of the card, but when I tried putting the thing back together, two of the four mounting screws SNAPPED under very little force. Not only that, but the way the screws are designed, most of them ended up rotating in place while I tried putting the screw caps on, obviously causing them to not screw in any further.
I'm going to purchase some screws and nuts and devise my own way of putting this together properly.... but in case that ends up failing: What would be the best alternative to the Arctic Accelero S3 cooler? I am looking for something that will keep my Radeon 5770 cool, fit perfectly in my Mac Pro and not obstruct the card from sitting in lane #1, and won't be too pricey. Lastly, I'd like it to provide a better installation experience than the Arctic cooler did.
Any ideas? I just can't deal with fan noise from GPUs, so something passive would be nice. I almost considered the Zalman cooler, but it's rather expensive for what it is, and it looks as though it's a bit dated.
-Thanks
