I've been looking at 3 different 'HUD' apps and can't decide which one to keep. I'm hoping for some recommendations of users...

This app shows g-forces. It's a really cool feature to have in your car, and unfortunately, its the only 1 of the 3 apps to offer this feature...
tracks elevations on a grid
clean and simple

My dream app offers gforces, altitude's and speed tracked over a map, speed, compass and easy viewing in windshield.
thanks for your input guys!

Have you tried driving with your phone sitting on your windshield? It will probably slide around unless you have a VERY sticky case. I'd try a spirited drive with your phone on your windshield before investing in a HUD app.

Yea I know what u mean. But I guess I want to know if there's a good enough app out there to warrant a proper case or holder beforre I purchase...
Have u tried any of these?

I have not, as I have gotten use to my ginormous speedo sitting in the center of my dashbaord. But, I have left my phone on my dash once or twice, and had to retrieve it off the floor within minutes of leaving my driveway. (With it in my iSkin Revo2 case.)

ahahhah you use swimming trunks!!
i bought one of those crappy silicon cases when got my phone. I quickly upgraded to the griffin leather case, however, if i set my silicon case on the dash, and set the phone on that, it takes the sharpest of turns to unseat it. However for the HUD apps in particular, setting it on the dash doesn't always work. You need to have the right angle to have it clearly displayed on the windshield. To use this properly you would most likely need an adjustable holder.

EDIT: a closer read through of your post shows that you don't actually use the trunks for 'iphone sliding reduction'....

I experimented with using HUD a while ago....it's difficult with the iPhone. Even on maximum brightness, it is very difficult to see unless you are under very dark conditions. It's also pretty tiny and difficult to adjust. There really should be a special mount for putting it at the proper angle.

Wait a minute. If I understand what you are asking, you want to turn your iphone to face the windshield and possibly prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, to project a HUD image? Are you using this only at night?

I think after you get this working your next post will be this:

I've used iHud but not the three you mentioned. It works ok at night but I have Navigon now so don't need a HuD.

As far as usefulness, it worked for a long trip. Used an iPod sticky pad on the dash and it stayed there in mirror mode. Helped recalibrate my speedo (My tires are a little smaller than normal because of my rims so my speed is a few mph off at highway speed. Used a friend's GPS later on and the HuD was pretty accurate.

aSmart HUD is where it's at. iPod controls, weather, set speed limits, speed graphs, compass, customize your HUD, and so much more...you can't go wrong.
