I've tried:

Noteskinery+: http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=287572523&mt=8
and
Notemaster:
http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=297921531&mt=8

Both are quite good I think, but Notemaster's spiral notepad theme is annoying and noteskinery can't embed images in the middle of a note.

Neither have great formatting.

Surely there must be a fantastic notebook style app with good organising, good formatting and use of images with a polished interface?

Notebooks/A. Schmid--can notes be viewed when offline?

I have used a wide range of notebook apps and by the very best is Notebooks by Alfons Schmid.

i have an ipod touch and need to be able to enter notes from my Mac and view my notes offline on my touch. Can i do that w/notebooks?

is there a separate desktop app?

You may want to check out Awesome Note. Not tried it myself, but looks good based on reviews and screenshots. And according to their
website, image/photo embedding is coming in a future update.

You could also do worse than check out Documents To Go. It has everything to appear to need, with a lot more features than most of the note apps out there. You can't insert or paste images in the iPhone app (yet), but it does display images that have been inserted in a doc on the desktop, i.e. in MS Word.

I use this app (the Exchange version), I can highly recommend it. Syncing with my Mac is seamless, and features are pretty advanced with many more in the pipeline, such as xls editing. This app is the reason I don't use a notepad app, as it doubles up as that as well as a fully fledged document editor.

I think you'd be missing out if you didn't check out Evernote. Syncs to your mac/pc, the internet, and your iPhone. Automatically. If you take a picture the Evernote servers will make that picture searchable. If you've written something down on a post-it, just take a picture of it and your handwriting is searchable.

I couldn't agree more. This app has greatly helped my efficiency at work - I have to take notes while on the phone, so now everything is searchable. I will also take photo's of business cards, which as Badandy said, become searchable once they're updated to the Evernote servers.

have evernote but lots of problems with it

I have evernote on my mac and touch, but for the past 2 weeks--andi have done the latest updates-- i often can't see my note contents on my itouch.

when i am offline and:
1. when i click on my Favorites, i see the list. when i want to see the note content, the next page just shows the title and then there is a tiny blue square under the line, but not the note contents. alternatively, the program crashes.

2. the same thing happens when i am not in my Favorites.

When i am online, it usually works--but has gotten very slow.

i thought w/the new updates, we cld view all notes when offline, not just favorites--is that supposed to be true?

i uninstalled evernote from the touch and reinstalled it, but still have the same problems. All my other apps work perfectly. that is why i am looking for another program.

Momo's decent, and it syncs to an online service. I'm looking forward to Awesome Note's updates though.

After trying out a lot of the suggestions, Notebooks by Alfons Schmid is probably the best. Although Notemaster is also pretty good, probably second best, because of the way you can embed images within notes.

Notebooks needs to improve with:

1. the ability to embed images within notes
2. font size
3. basic formatting (bold/italic etc and justified text)

Then it really will be the perfect notebook app I think.

finding notebook notes on mac

i just got notebooks and am trying to figure it out.
from what i can figure out, if i want to put info into notebook, i have to copy and paste the note into either word or excel and then drag it into syncmaster--right?

is there a way to get the notes to stay on my mac in the same Books as in notebooks?--so the info is in the same place on both my mac and touch?

i like notebooks cuz i can see the notes on my touch when i am offline
