I text less than 200 messages a month so i dont wanna get the $5 at&t Plan

whats the best text app in the appstore?

I'm fond of 'Textie.'

I've never used other apps, though, so I can't compare.

It's free but has ads mixed in with the text messages. It costs $2 to turn the ads off, but I never did it. They don't really bother me that much.

if jailbroken get BiteSMS, you can also buy texting credits from these guys.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.5 Mobile/8B117 Safari/6531.22.7)

textfree, textnow, text+ u get a separate number with txtnow and textfree

I'd vote for Textie. Best texting app I've seen so far.

Also, I'd look into getting something like Trillian and just using AIM or yahoo or something.

gv mobile+ (2.99) with boxcar for push. it assigns you your own personal number which can also be forwarded to your mobile device
