I have an early 2005 Mac mini, 1.42 Ghz G4 with Tiger, and I just got a used mid 2007 Mac mini with Tiger and an Intel Core 2 duo processor (dual 2.0 Ghz).

Can I set up the newer one in target disk mode connected via firewire to the old one or is there a better way to do this? (hub, KVM, etc)

If firewire, is there a certain type of firewire cable for this?

Thanks in advance.

A regular 6-wire to 6-wire Firewire 400 cable should be fine.
You want to start up the new computer first.
Then you want to start up the old one in Target Disk Mode.
Then you can access the files on the old computer from the new one.

Here's the instructions:

Good Luck,

I got the necessary files (which were all rather small) and put them on a thumb drive and transferred them to my newer Mac mini. It went quickly and I transferred a couple thousand files.

I will use the 6 pin male to 6 pin male firewire 400 cable I got from Radio Shack to use the older Mac mini as a backup hard drive for large files and old files.

The remaining 62 gigs in the older Mac mini will work fine as an external backup drive for now and since I don't do iMovies or any type of movies, so this should be fine.

Everybody, thanks for the tips.
