What's the big deal with Oxford 911?

I was thinknig of getting this macally drive from newegg

But reading these forums everyone seems to say that you sholud always get an oxford 911 chipset, which this drive doesnt' have (it uses the initio chipset). however, searching these forums I can't seem to find why oxford 911 is supposedly so much better. I'm using this drive to backup my hard drive and throw on some tv shows/movies, do I really need oxford 911 for that?

You don't NEED the Oxford 911 chipset, it's just that Oxford were the first firmware manufacturer to come out with a recognizable brand, reliable and good performing Firewire chipset, so they have become a known factor. Initio is a good manufacturer as well.

The 911 chipset is at least 5 years old.

Damn that was fast! Thanks CanadaRAM, am I to assume that the macally uses the initio 1430 bridge chipset you speak of? I can't seem to find the specification anywhere on the newegg website.
