Are there any kind of specials or anything?

I am with Sprint now and really want to switch to AT&T but I am on such a great plan with Sprint, it's hard to justify paying so much more per month.

Yes, I have SERO with Sprint and pay $35/month for 500 minutes, weekends nights at 7, unlimited data, unlimited texting, picture mail, and insurance as well...

I know I can't expect anything close with the iphone plan with AT&T but how close could I get to this? The lowest I created online with unlimited texting and 450 minutes was $90/month ($30 + $40 + $20) plus tax would make this over $100...

Just wondering if you guys have any tips as to how to get the iphone on a cheaper plan?

Here's your tip

Go to work for AT&T, I'll bet they'll cut you a killer deal.

In terms of finding the lowest price, refer to AT&T or simply search the forums. This topic has been discussed many times before.

There are deals to be found actually. If you're a student, you can probably get a discount close to 10% on your monthly bill. This depends on your school though, and there is a way on the AT&T website to find out.

If you're employed, your employer might agree to take over the data part of your contract. This depends on your employer thought.

I think I've seen others on here refer to a NAT discount in the past and I'm not sure if that is something different than the student discount or not, but it's out there.

What I am curious about is if there are any promotions going on right now with the iPhone. I found an old link about AT&T and American Express having a deal where if you put your bill on AMEX you get $150 back.

I know there is a "referral" deal for $150 to whoever referred you to AT&T, but aside from that, does anyone know of any current promotions? Making the switch this week!

any and all discount do not apply to iphone data...so the best plan you could get is the senior 200 without rollover, fedex's 26% discount w/ iphone data and no text

60 bucks - discount on phone service

You could get a Google Voice number and have that forward to your new AT&T number you'd be getting. Through the Google Voice mobile site you can get unlimited free SMS messaging.

If you have a computer that's always on, you can use Growl and some plugins for it to check Google Voice for new text messages and push them (via data, not using your text messaging plan) to your iPhone. The only down side is you have to read / reply to your text messages using Safari instead of the built in SMS app. Could be a pain in the ass, but if your really looking to save $20 a month, it's worth it!

Here's a quick tutorial I found just now. This particular one details setting it up on a windows machine, but it works similarly on OS X. All you need is Growl (free) and Prowl (app for the iPhone, $3, totally worth it).

That was true with the first gen., however since the 3G, data plans can be discounted.
