I know the iPhone 15 series now all have 48MP but I didn’t really understand what it meant on the event or spec sheets about 24MP or 48MP?

I know the 14 Pro 48MP you had to select RAW to get the 48MP, but what is with the 24MP and 48MP option now on all iPhone 15’s?

I think the default camera is 24MP (instead of 12MP). The ultrawide camera is still only 12MP though.

I don't know - Apple has a tendency to hide details to make them more 'easy to digest' for the non-techy folks. But this is also frustrating when you want a straight answer.

Similarly confused.

Even after reading this:

The explanation during the keynote wasn’t clear how the hardware is different/better:

However, admittedly, I am not a photo expert.

Glad it’s not me then!!!

It was as Apple intended, not clear and hidden almost as mentioned.

Ridiculous, and makes me suspicious, it says it’s a 48MP camera, so wonder if the 2X zoom is basically using the 48MP and zooming in? No idea though….

They did imply auto switching - more light -> 48, lower light -> 24

Just to make this thread more confusing: I was interpreting this as they were telling us to use 48MP when you have more light and landscape type shots, but in all other scenarios, use 24. In other words, I interpreted it as all manual switching.

Which I would prefer
