The official Google Sync/iOS tutorial says to set up your gmail sync as a Microsoft Exchange account.

What's the difference between this and just selecting "Google mail" in the "Add account" menu?

EDIT: nvm, just realized the (obvious) difference. Setting gmail up as an Exchange account allows for Push email while setting it up as a Google mail account sets it up as POP3.
