Hi there.

Just downloaded MetaX for the first time, and had a look around.

As the title question really, whats the point (if I'm only going to be using Front Row and maybe :apple:TV in the future) of tagging things like actors and directors? Does this information show up in FR or :apple:TV?

Because in iTunes, in the Get Info sections.. I can't see anything.

Cheers,

ryan

I don't know about Front Row, but those fields do appear on the Apple TV (so does Producer).

Also, my OCD will not allow me to skip those fields :)

I stand corrected!

Yup, I have looked at the theatrical trailers in front row, and the actors are popping up.

So is MetaX the only way to add this in? I'm a bit wary when it says I should back my files up first, don't really have the space/patience to go about copying a few films, tagging, then deleting, then copying again...

MetaX has, in some previous incarnations/versions, been the responsible party for munged (<-- the technical term for destroyed) files.

The developer is light-speed quick at fixing problems but, with each new version, there is an inherent risk. He places the warning as a... well... warning -- he'd rather you curse the speed of copying a file than him for (possibly) munging it. If the version you are using has not munged any files, it won't.

The current version is fine, happy, plays well with others, and is due for a round of applause. :D

I add that information because I like seeing it on the :apple:TV. Plus I am hopeful that since Apple has added a "Genres" section they will also add other sections such as "Director" in the future, or allow us to search our local content in the same way we can search the iTunes Store. By adding in these tags you would then be able to find all your movies directed by, say, John Carpenter or starting, say, Bette Davis.

Michael
