Hi I was just wondering what the point of people getting the Apple TV in Canada when we don't even have downloadable video content in our iTunes?

I suppose what I'm trying to say is, is apple tv even a necessary device?

Hi I was just wondering what the point of people getting the Apple TV in Canada when we don't even have downloadable video content in our iTunes?

I've got two of them and I live in Canada. I'd say I use it 75% for music content, and about 25% for stuff I own on DVD. It's very convenient, particularly when you have people over.

I live in Toronto. I've got an Apple TV. I use it for music, movies and tv shows. Where do I get my content?

1) Music - I download from the iTunes Music Store, RIP CDs, etc.

2) Movies - I rip my own DVDs for quick access and obtain movies by other means which I will leave to your imagination

3) TV Shows - I buy them off iTunes. Yes. That's right. iTunes. With our dollar so high, it makes buying TV shows from the US store feasible. I've downloaded several seasons of TV shows that I've never seen before and it's great.

Buy one. Do it now, dammit.

hmmm isnt that what a dvd player is for?

Sure, and a CD player can be had for $20 a pop. The convenience of not swapping discs and being able to shuffle different material is worthwhile to some people.

Buy a gift card in the US. Then use it in the US iTunes store.

Re: buying US video content from a non-US store

If you're not near the US, buy your first card on eBay. You'll have to pay a $5 premium or so ($50 card is $55 US).

You'll immediately receive an email with the code - no waiting for the card in the mail.

In iTunes, make sure you're logged out of your Canadian account. Go to the US store, redeem gift card, create a new account using a US address (anything should work).

Then, the account will be loaded. It's prepaid and obviously not tied to a credit card so when your account dwindles, you're out of luck. To top off your account, buy some cards when you find yourself in the US again. Alternatively, you can get them on eBay, though you'll have to pay the premium.

Since the iTunes library can support multiple accounts, this isn't an issue. And since Apple TV doesn't care about accounts - it only cares about libraries - this too isn't an issue.

Hooray!
