Hi all,

I'm planning on getting the upgraded RAM from a local retail store that sells it much cheaper. My question is: what's the real difference in speed/power between 4Gb and 8Gb?

Thanks!

Be careful when buying 3rd party. A lot of RAM that works fine in PCs will not work in Macs b/c it's lower quality. Personally, I've found generic OWC, Crucial to consistently work as does Kingston's main line (not ValuRAM which is a gamble). Samsung usually works well too. I've had mixed results w/ PNY depending on the chips used on the stick.

Crucial Memory

Ordered Crucial memory today. Already on their website. Was under $90 with 5% off coupon for 8GBs of additional RAM. That will take me to 12GBs on this new 2011 iMac and should help me run VMware Fusion and Windows much better. Not bad now, but virtual machines do love memory.

Crucial is great quality and never had an issue with it and they ship very fast.

Wow, ordered the memory on Wednesday, and UPS tracking shows it is out for delivery. Should have a 12GB memory iMac by the end of the day. Wooo Hooo.
