Whats this "OS X Installer"?

I downgraded back to 10.9.3 after realising 10.10 DP does not work on a lot of my software and found this.

It kernel panics when I select it but I cannot remove it either, anyone know how??

You should be able to delete in using Disk Utility.

Thats the problem right there, it does not show up in Disk Utility. Does not show up in terminal either.

Still trying to get this fixed.

Run the command "diskutil list" (without the quotes) in Terminal and tell us what it says?

That does look normal. I know Yosemite did some odd things with second partition installs by converting the volume to core storage, and I wonder if this is a remnant of that? I would still think we could see it here in Terminal though.

Run "diskutil cs list" and see if that shows any core storage volumes.

I installed Yosemite to a separate external disk and got the same issue when I detached the drive to boot back into my working partitions. It renamed one of my Maverick installations as OS X Installer. Selecting it brought up the Yosemite installation progress bar.

I killed it and rebooted. Still the same. I booted into another unaffected Mavericks volume and chose the problematical Mavericks volume via Startup Disk in SysPrefs. It showed correctly as Mavericks 10.9.3 in SysPrefs. Mavericks booted up after rebooting.

Seems to be an odd bug affecting the EFI.

Found Solution - Delete Hidden Files

So I had the same problem with "OS X Installer" after I installed Yosemite on a second partition, and I have found the problem. Reveal the hidden files and on the root of the disk, there should be two files that should start with ".IABoot" (unfortunately, I deleted the files before I took note of the file names but I am sure it starts with that). Delete those and empty your trash and the disk should go back to normal. I know this is an old post but hopefully I could be of service.

It's an .IABootFiles folder and .IAProductInfo. I was having the same problem, thanks!

Are you sure? Cause I do have a 10.10 Recovery partition and I had the "OS X Installer" partition, which wasn't really a partition at all since it just took over my second HDD and renamed it (because I ran the installer on it). I also ran the OS X 10.10 Installer via an external HDD when I had to reinstall Yosemite and it also took over and renamed it "OS X Installer" even thought I installed Yosemite on my SSD, which currently has the 10.10 Recovery partition on it. It's a bug for sure but I don't think it is a Recovery partition gone rogue.

I've taken a look and I can't find anything in the root folder from console that resembles this.

Pretty sure I had that. I booted into my Mavericks partition and ejected it like a normal installer. If that was a recovery partition, then oops! I didn't think my 09 MBP had those. If it dies I have to use my Leopard disk to recover. Although I might try to make a USB installer of Mavericks just to be safe.
