Not sure if it's my truck, the apps I'm using, or CarPlay itself but things have gotten increasingly buggy and unreliable. This morning I couldn't play a song with Spotify without using the phone directly. Music wouldn't play otherwise. Then when I tried to order a coffee with the Panera app using CarPlay I had to use the phone because "location services were disabled" (not on the phone however). The CarPlay has gotten buggier and buggier for me. Does anyone else run into these issues? Should I be using Apple Music?

I don't know what truck you have, but CarPlay has gotten a bit flaky in my F150. The steering wheel controls seem to just send random commands to CarPlay.

Chevy Colorado, my other issue is there is a long delay between when I click the skip button on the steering wheel and when the songs actually change.

Are you on latest iOS?

If you haven’t already, try a hard reboot on your phone and then unpairing and re-pairing the CarPlay connection. If you’re able to reboot the infotainment system on your truck, I’d give that a shot too.

FWIW, not having any issues with our two BMWs and wireless CarPlay.

I have an aftermarket Kenwood radio installed in my truck and my phone is connected to it via Bluetooth. I used to be able to tell Siri "Resume Podcast" or "Play Podcast" and the Podcast would play or resume. However for the last 6 months to a year, I've lost track of when, telling it to play/resume a Podcast results in music playing instead, most of the time. Maybe 20% of the time, the Podcast plays as requested. It fails mostly when I first get into the car for the day. It does "not fail" mostly when I am running errands and get in/out of the car frequently.

For the last few weeks, it's got worse/weirder, where after I manually start a Podcast using my phone, about 30 to 60 seconds later, CarPlay decides to replace the Podcast with music while the Podcast is playing.

When I stay in BT mode and decide NOT to play anything to drive in silence, if I accept a call, music will just start playing after I end the call. Workaround, I've found that putting the radio in "Standby" mode will allow calls in CarPlay, but not play music after the call is ended.

If I am using BT mode to hear the voice navigation from Maps, after each spoken direction, music starts playing, even if I want to drive in silence using nothing but the map. I have no workaround for this.

In Bluetooth settings in iOS, I have "Sync Contacts" enabled, but the Kenwood screen always just shows the phone number and not the name. There is a rare set of conditions where occasionally the name will show up on the Kenwood... like maybe when a call is in progress when I connect to CarPlay, unsure. This used to work all the time... incoming/outgoing calls always showed the name on the display. I used to be able to toggle "Sync Contacts" and it would get unstuck. This no longer works.

I've applied the latest Kenwood firmware, and my iPhone 13 Pro is always up to date. I've re-paired the Bluetooth many times. Nothing matters.

I did not have any of these issues when I first got the truck around 2018. CarPlay used to work great. And I don't understand why "Music" is always the default and why one is unable to stop it. Even force quitting the Music app has no effect; if iPhone wants a song in the queue, it seems to just be perpetually stuck there until you replace it with some other audio. There seems to be no way for me to NOT play music when being hit with arbitrary external triggers. I only want to play music when I decide to hit play from the Music app.

I love the new features but it seems like a lot of things, CarPlay, HomeKit, are breaking lately as newer updates roll out.

For the first time since owning our '21 F-150, for the past few days CarPlay has been glitchy. Nothing terribly serious but it's been flawless until very recently so flawless is the benchmark. I have no idea if it's the truck or the phone that's the problem.
