I have a 32g iPhone 7, that's all I could've to afford. Whenever I try to update iOS I have to uninstall almost all my apps to update. I see the majority of my storage is in my Media file. I don't want to delete my music because I have a huge library but if I have to will it be gone completely? I've done the little things to make space; delete cache, uninstall apps, shortened my messages from "forever" to "30 days", and even deleted some short videos that I had in my photos app. What else can I do? I can't afford a new phone, I work part-time. I just like to keep up with the updates and have my phone compete with today's standards.

Have you tried updating via iTunes on your PC?

Also, is your music library on your PC?

This storage issue one reason why now I just use Spotify.

I did connect to iTunes and it was updated to 13.5.1 and then the 13.5.5 came out and it wouldn't update I guess it was a beta so it wouldn't update. I just uninstalled the apps again and was able to update. My music media is on iTunes Music when I open the Music app on my computer the songs are on there.

If your music are all on your PC, then you don't have to worry deleting them from your phone as you can always re-transfer your music from your PC. :)
